Friday OT #2 - The Nines

What is your favorite city in the US? Why? What top cities would you like to visit?

My hierarchy of top 3:

1 - Portland, OR - it is super fun and weird and goofy and doesn't take itself too seriously. Great food, bars, music.
2 - Savannah, GA - it is also super fun, and weird, but in the exact opposite way of Portland. It's so historical and grand.
3 - NYC - I love that there is something to do all of the time, day or night.

I'd like to visit Austin, TX - I've been to most of the other big cities in TX, but think it would be a blast to visit.

Morgantown Roll Call

Any other CF'er's going to the game tomorrow in Morgantown? I work with an ISU guy and two WVU guys and we always make the trip from DC to Morgantown for football every other year and basketball if the game falls on a weekend. If any other CF'er's are coming, we are all going to be tailgating in the Burgundy lot. The best part of the tailgating in the burgundy lot is that I found out my hotel is dog friendly, so I'll have my insanely friendly and outgoing border collie pup with me until an hour or so before kickoff and he thrives on attention. Who else is going to the game tomorrow?

OT: Dumb and Dumber question

Login to view embedded media I am 99% sure that I heard that one of the guys in the ‘hey guys. Big gulps huh’ scene in Dumb and Dumber was an old Iowa state basketball player. It’s been so long I can’t remember what player but we had twins on the team back in those years and I think it was one of them? Anyone confirm this?

anyway just learned that this scene was 100% improvised and those guys were just standing outside and were unpaid extras.

Not eating as a family. Stopping for 1 hour

My oldest child is 38. My youngest 23. We always required supper, no matter what time. We all sat down, ate well and talked or maybe rushed thru it, but we all sat down, and talked or had or explanations of coming or past events and plans. I hate to sound old but it was kind of cool. I see none of my kids passing the art of supper on to their kids. Not a complaint or a suggestion for others to follow. Just an older persons recollections.

Electric Scooters

I've been thinking about getting an electric scooter for a bit, and wonder if anybody has experience with them and has recommendations. It'd mostly be for my commute and short trips less than 2 miles. My main concern is that I'm 225 lbs and I got a couple hills to deal with. The main reason I want one is that it can be kind of a pain to find a bike spot on the light rail, and the scooters are much more compact.

HBO Series: Watchmen

Due to recent news, I figured it was time to start a new thread about the upcoming HBO series based on the Watchmen graphic novel.

Damon Lindelof (Co-Creator of Lost & The Leftovers) will be the showrunner for the series. He published an instagram post that consisted of 5 pages of thoughts about the project. He really laid a lot out there about how attached he is to the original material.

The largest takeaway is that this new series will take place after the events of the original graphic novel.

Casting news was announced earlier today. No characters have been revealed yet, only actors:

Regina King will be in the lead role
Don Johnson (yes, the one from Nash Bridges and Miami Vice)
Tim Blake Nelson
Louis Gossett Jr
Adelaide Clemens
Andrew Howard

Genndy Tartakovsky's Primal

Has anyone else checked this show out this week?

Tartakovsky is considered a master of animation and based on the first episode, Primal is only going to add to his legend. No dialogue. Just music, ambient noise, and guttural howls as the main character stabs, strangles, and bludgeons his way through foe after foe. It's not for children. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest.

Bank won't deposit my change?

Is this a thing now where banks won't take change and deposit it into your account? I went to my BofA branch this morning and took in a cup of change. It's a 32oz cup about 2/3 full. Probably weighs 5 lbs. I don't know when the last time I did this was, at least a few years.

Before I say anything, she says we don't take change. I say I don't want cash, I want it deposited into my account. Send it off, do whatever, I don't care. She says no, sorry, we don't do that. She then recommends I go to the grocery store and dump it into the machine. Which I'm absolutely not doing.

Is this common practice at banks now? I'm a bit flabbergasted that a bank won't deposit money into my account, even if it is change.
