First Time Homebuyer - Lender Advice

My wife and I are moving back to Des Moines and are (hopefully) soon to be in the process of buying our first home. Both of us have been moved away since college, so we don’t really have any prior banking relationships in the area or ideas of places to start. Anyone have any recommendations from whom you’ve worked with or just general tips as we begin the mortgage process for the first time? Excited to be back home and be a Cyclone season ticket holder! TIA for your help!

NFL: ***Official Week Six Thread***

The Pats get a light scrimmage in against the Giants without Saquon Barkley, Wayne Gallman, Evan Engram, and Sterling Shepard tonight.

Best of Week Six:

HOU @ KC - On paper it should be a shootout. I'm pulling for the Chiefs to get right and do the COlts a solid by knocking off their only serious competition for the AFC South. Getting Tyreek Hill back in the fold will be huge for them if he's activated for this one.

PHI @ MIN - I don't know what to make of this one. I think the Eagles pull it off but they've been a little up and down so it's tough to know which team is going to show up. Could have big postseason implications since both teams could be fighting for a wild card down the stretch.

SF @ LA Rams - Big NFC West game. It's too early for any game to be an elimination game but a loss for the Rams would put them at 3-3, trailing the Niners and Seahawks in the division.

DET @ GB - The Lions have a shot at bringing Green Bay back to the pack in the North.

MIA @ WSH - Sheer morbid curiosity. The team actively trying to lose vs. the team that unintentionally sucks. The loser will be the winner, with the inside track on the first overall pick.

Texas Tech vs Baylor review

Just watched the highlights of the game and Baylor will not play that bad the rest of the year. Brewer threw 3 brutal INTs, and they were tackling horribly on a lot of TTs big plays. Mimms flat dropped a perfect TD pass that would have won the game in regulation.

The TT QB is okay most of the time, but he also threw a couple WTF INTs. They look to have a decent RB, and a couple big receivers.

The Tech defense looks better than in the past, but they are nowhere near as good as the Cyclones. Should be a good game. Winning the TO battle again this week would help make this game easier.

MLB: ***Official 2019 St. Louis Cardinals Season Thread***

Ok, it seems to be that time of year, so let's hear it Cards fans - what's everyone thinking for 2019.

Personally, I think this is the year we take back the Central. A great offseason for the Birds, with the additions of Goldschmidt and Miller. Goldschmidt has the ability to be an MVP should flourish in front of a full Busch Stadium. Looking for a bounce back year for Fowler and continued improvement out of Ozuna. Carpenter likely takes a bit of a step back, but the lineup is more than ready to pick up the slack.

Solid starting rotation, but relief still a question mark for the pitching staff.

All in all, 2019 should certainly be a playoff year. Anything less will be a massive disappointment.

I like that KSU is routinely scheduled as a rival game on last weekend. Two similar programs, and WVU rivalry is too forced.

Anyone open to a 2 year swing back through Arrowhead for Farmageddon?

KXNO Podcasts

I am a podcast addict and I love all three local shows on KXNO. I subscrbe to all three and haven't missed a minute for years. But sometime a while back, for some reason, a KXNO podcast subscription started delivering redundant content. I am guessing it happened around the time Andrew Downs became the boss, but that may have nothing to do with it.

Anyway, all my podcast are downloaded automatically and when I hit listen it plays one right after another. But for some reason they have decided to not only post each hour of each show in one hour segments, but they also take some of the special interviews and break them out and those are also delivered with the subscription. It drives me crazy when I'm driving and start to hear repeated content and have to fumble around to stop that from playing and delete it or mark it as played.

If KXNO wants to put just those special parts up on their website, that's great. But please keep them out of my subscription. They are irritating a loyal listener and are turning a big fan of these shows into a dissatisfied customer.

I have communicated with Andrew Downs on this and was hoping to see a change happen. But the repeat content keeps coming pretty much each day. Many days there are multiple parts that are repeated.

I love they way they handle the Cyclone Insider and Hawkeye Insider podcasts as separate subscriptions. That way I can get the Cyclone podcast, and not the Hawkeye podcast.

I am currently subscribing to 23 different podcasts and KXNO is the only one that abuses the customer with redundant content. (Before someone asks how I have time to listen to 23 podcast - only the KXNO podcasts are daily - most are weekly or less.)

I hope Chris reads this and can influence Andrew Downs (or whoever is responsible) to fix this. Chris does a great job with the podcasts from this site.

NBC coaching hot seat list has a lot of familiarity ...

BILL SELF, Kansas: Kansas is going to fight tooth and nail against the allegations levied by the NCAA in the Notice of Allegations that was served last month, but that doesn’t change the fact that Self and company were hit with multiple Level I violations. It’s tough for me to envision a scenario where Self is actually fired, but there’s a chance that the two parties could end up parting ways one way or another by the end of the season.
