WBB: Preview of Southern University

20-12 last year. SWAC conference (includes Grambling State, Ark-Pine Bluff, Alcorn State...). 152 RPI at the end of the season.

They have yet to play a game this season, so there's not much to go on. They were voted the preseason favorite to win the conference. They won their conference last year and were rewarded with a 16 seed, losing 103-46 to Mississippi State.

Last year they had a very deep rotation. Nobody averaged 30 mpg, and only one averaged over 24 mpg. Their leading scorer had 9.2 ppg.

They have two players taller than 6-1, but both were on the team last year and neither was a factor.

They turned it over a lot last season (over 18 per game). Their three leading assist-makers are gone, two of which were their only players with an A/TO ratio of at least 1.0.

They did not shoot particularly well last year. 39% overall, 29% on threes, and 62% from the line.

Their top returning player is Alyric Scott. She's a 5'10" guard who was nearly their leading scorer (9.1 ppg) and was their leading rebounder (6.1). She is preseason 1st team all-SWAC, the only Southern player honored on a preseason team this year.

Loss was on me, sorry guys

After it we got that TD to bring it back to a two score game, I knew it was one of those games I had to not be watching for us to win. So I did the dishes, took out recycling, took out compost, took out garbage, and talked to my 10 year old about how well her piano practice was sounding. Ran out of stuff to do just as the Cyclones were lining up for 2. I'm really sorry, everyone. I'll try better to shirk all my responsibilities for the next 6 days so I have plenty to do in case I'm needed next weekend.

Challenge Rules

This has been bugging me for awhile and came to a head today. Why doesn’t the NCAA model the nfl challenge rules? I find myself watching college every week wondering if a review will happen and then see the nfl seem to get it right. Being able to challenge a pi, especially in college, seems like a huge turn in the game as well (see end of isu game today). Anyone think there’s a chance the NCAA will ever move towards an NFL model?

Baylor lost last night to Washington ...

They led most of the game. I went to bed when Bears were up six with 4-mins to play. Then see this morning that they lost it 64-67. Both clubs are very talented. BU will be like their football team a handful for the B12. Not overly tall, but big and athletic dudes everywhere. Played 'man' defense the whole time that I watched. Maybe coach Drew is giving up on the zone?
