Are you working remotely ?

Has your office closed yet? I live an hour outside of Minneapolis.

I am waiting for ours to do so, but our industry is not exactly the most proactive... yesterday our office manager sent out a note about washing our hands regularly... Uhhhhh ya think?

There is nothing that we accomplish in the office that we couldn't do remotely, so I am thinking it is only a matter of time, but maybe not.

Neck nerve issue -

As I near 56 (and retirement this year - NONhumble brag) I'm having an unwelcome pattern of neck pain which radiates into shoulder, down biceps and into my fingers causing numbness and tingling. LOTS of pain with shoulder and bad tightness of neck. Looking back at earlier health issues (carpal tunnel, biceps tendonitis, shoulder issues) and based on an MRI the cause is sadly clear. I have moderate to sever stenosis from C1-C7 with some other crap in there as well all on the left side. My last flare this summer took nearly 3 months to clear and on Sunday I had the start of another, so far worse, flare.

Started a course of prednisone to get me over the hump until I go in Monday for cervical steroid injections. Will be a first for me.

Has anyone had something similar - including epidural injections for pain relief? Did you get relief?

Has anyone had to have surgery? And did it provide relief?

How have others managed the pain and flare-ups?

One of primary reasons for an early retirement is to enjoy and active retirement (hike, bike, ski, travel) before infirmity sets in and its getting me down thinking I might have to enter the cycle of pain and mobility management.

On the plus side, my wife won't let me have a motorcycle so "hoping" I can get a very sporty Rascal to feed that jones with that sweet, sweet parking pass. :)

NCAA shuts down recruiting till April 15th

Just saw an article. Guessing most of the AAU tournaments are as well so might as well. Having 4 signed should help Prohm.

Finding our one major missing piece (replacing Haliburton) will likely be a Juco or some type of other transfer so the missing evaluation time isn't going to hurt too much.

Any other attrition I think Prohm can afford to go big game hunting as our roster doesn't have massive holes rather in need of some star power. Therefore really don't need much eval on those types either.

Hopefully is completely screws the J$Hoks.

Dresser's March 2020 Newsletter

Earlier this week as I was flying back from a recruiting trip to California, I wrote this email intending to send it out as a preview of our NCAA tournament in Minneapolis.

Well, of course all of that -- and all of your lives -- have now changed. So I want to reach out and reassure you that despite the cancellation of the NCAA championships our guys are well and we will be moving forward here as soon as we are able.

I met with the team yesterday afternoon and talked to them about how missing the National tournament would cause them to cope with the kind of adversity we frequently coach them up to handle.

This season already had brought us our fair share of adversity, including multiple injuries. But despite that, we finished the Big 12 dual meet season tied for first with Oklahoma State and we finished second to Oklahoma State last weekend at the Big 12 tournament in Tulsa.

Just as encouraging, we were among only six universities in the country that had qualified to take at least 9 guys to the National championships in Minneapolis. The others were: Nebraska, Iowa, Virginia Tech, Lehigh, and Oklahoma State. So we were among great company!

I know the cancellation of the NCAA tournament is disappointing to all of you. We were set to take more than 600 Cyclone Fans with us to Minneapolis. That is a tremendous show of support and for that, I thank all of you.

We plan to keep pushing forward again next season and we will continue to need all of your support.

With Iowa State's spring break next week and online classes through at least April 3, most of our guys are now enjoying some R&R and have gone home to spend time with their families.

Moving forward, I want to mention that our freestyle competition season begins in mid-April with the UWW Junior National Tournament in Las Vegas. Right now we plan to take a handful of guys. Like with most else, though, we are in a wait-and-see mode on whether that tournament will take place. SO stay tuned!

We already are looking forward to next season and our incoming class.

Here are our signed Cyclones who will be freshmen next year:

Zach Redding (NY) just won a NY State Championship at 132 lbs. He currently is ranked No. 6 nationally in his weight class.

Cody Fisher (IA) just won his second IA State championship at 220 lbs. Cody was a 4-time finalist and currently is ranked No. 15 in his weight class nationally.

Cam Robinson (PA-AAA) just finished second in his state tournament at 152 lbs. He currently is ranked No. 6 nationally in his weight class.

Drew Woodley (MN-AAA) unfortunately had to default out of his state championship at 138 lbs due to a concussion. He placed second in state as a junior.

Ben Monroe (IA) from Ankeny Centennial was a three-time state finalist, taking 3rd place at the state tournament this year at 145 lbs and 2nd place last year.

Once we are allowed to resume recruiting after April 15th, we plan on adding a few more seniors to this list!

Stay tuned as we, like you, live through these very unusual times.

Go Cyclones!

Farmland

I'm looking at a couple of investment options (multi-units), but one of them that has been sent to me by a realtor is farmland. I have little knowledge in land and never thought about adding land to my portfolio. There is 86 acres (roughly 80 acres tillable) of land that has CRP contract through 2026 which pays out annually at $21K. They are asking $6,900 an acre for the land and is resides in North/Central Iowa. Your cash-on-cash return looks terrible, so why would this be attractive to an investor? I'm strictly looking at this as an investor (cash flow), not as a farmer. Maybe I'm missing the bigger picture but why would this be a solid investment...

Just out curiosity, why would a farmer want this if he can't do anything till 2027?

Braxton Bayless

I just heard today that Ron Bayless' son Braxton had 41 points in a state tournament game today. I have not heard of him until today. For those who may have seen him play before, is he a Big 12 caliber player? Since he is a legacy, didn't know if there was any interest from us as far as a scholarship or preferred walk on?

Pressure Washers

Looking to get a pressure washer for vehicle, house siding and general garage/driveway cleaning. Question is I like the idea of electric and I've heard that they are getting better but what should I get? Looking to spend in the 2-300 range but could go lower if its a solid washer.

So electric or gas???

Help me out CF!

Recruits at PIAA Individual Tourney

ISU commits Paniro Johnson and Cam Robinson have both advanced to the PIAA class AAA Semifinals.

Paniro won 7-4 his first match and pinned his next guy in 0:51 in the quarters.

Cam won 18-4 his first match and 4-2 in the quarters.

I'm not too familiar with their opponents, but I know Cam's quarters match was with Nathan Stefanik, a two-time place winner and Princeton commit. He's brother to current Princeton wrestler, Travis Stefanik. It seems like a pretty decent win to move onto the Semis.

Sounds like Paniro's Semifinal match will be a tough one against two-time place winner and Cornell commit, Cole Handlovic.

Auto-Bid Madness 2020

Deadline to enter is past. Composite list replaces OP, for ease of access. Separated into 2 posts, due to site constraints. Notify me about any omissions/errors.

I’ll strive to update the lists with bolding (for winners) and grayed-out (for teams that are eliminated). Be patient with me :)

Drugs and alcohol in the age of Coronavirus

Everyone stocking up? What’s your haul? I’ve got a ton of edibles in the freezer and a big jar of green dragon tincture that I can make in to a bunch of different things. Also sitting on a decent amount of flower. hitting Costco this weekend for a cart full of Coors Light, Miller (I’ve tapped out of the craft brew game for the most part unless I go to an actual brewery) and champagne. Definitely staying away from coke but in the market for LSD or Boomers.
