How much money do Iowa State sports teams generate?

SIAP but i thought this daily article was interesting.

  • Football
    • $15.96 million in income
    • $4.61 million in expenses
  • Men’s basketball
    • $4.95 million in income
    • $2.19 million in expenses
  • Women’s basketball
    • $611,041 in income
    • $1.39 million in expenses
  • Wrestling
    • $277,223 in income
    • $447,386 in expenses
  • Other sports
    • $321,111 in income
    • $3.85 million in expenses
The coaching salaries can't be right, can they? I thought Campbell was getting around 4 million a year but this only says 2.7 million.

Wrestling Super Fans

Matt Van Winkle is writing a story on Iowa State super fans. I thought I'd drop his tweet here if any of you know of any wrestling fans who are just nutheads and should be considered!

We all know we're a little crazy as wrestling fans so I would love to see wrestling fans included in this type of thing but I don't personally know any to go ahead and tag. So feel free to send them Matt's way on twitter :)

Bowls are cool and all, but…

They’re kind of an anti-climactic way to end the college football season. We spend 14 weeks watching the teams play, then they’re off for three or four weeks before going to some random location to play a glorified exhibition game. Anymore, the more exciting matchups on paper are tainted by players opting out.

I wouldn’t mind scraping the whole bowl system and just having tournaments. Just have the playoff and then a few levels of lower tier tournaments for the other teams that are 7-5 or better. Honestly, that would create more TV content and probably be more exciting. Instead of being stuck with the same tie-ins every year, we could end up playing a variety of teams from all around the country. Winning a lower tier tournament would be a huge boost going into the following year. G5 teams could probably get the most benefit out of it because if some program like Troy tears it up in the lower tier tournaments one year and beats a few P5 teams, maybe they get the benefit of the doubt the next year.

Thoughts about Cyclone fans supporting our team in the Liberty Bowl

I (we—my wife of 62 years is as big a Cyclone fan as I am and she’s actually the one who brought it up first) will be going because:
1. We want to show our respect to this team, the coaching staff, CMC and JP for the hand they all had in getting the program turned around with so much turmoil facing them.
2. We DO NOT want to be a part of having ISU’s fan base get embarrassed by a poor showing compared to previous bowls.
3. We DO want to be a part of ISU having such a huge and enthusiastic crowd at this game so that: a) Our current players and coaching staff will be emboldened and play/coach their best game yet, b) Portal and other recruiting prospects will take notice of the huge ISU support and will look friendly on them committing to sign with ISU and c) the tremendous showing by ISU’s fans will help JP get the attention of bowl decision-makers in the future and negotiate much better bowl opportunities for us all as this team & coaching staff continue to bring us even better results.

I want to encourage anyone thinking negatively about this bowl game to put those thoughts aside and focus on the big picture—specifically what actions you can take now by being at the game in person and how that can help generate even more positive results in the future for us all!! I expect and can’t wait for us to play in the Rose Bowl sometime within the next three years—-how about you?

Just came across this and a head's up you will need some tissues. Probably the most emotional I've been watching an ad.
