Urban Exploration thread about the shrine - Wrestling

I was not part of the CF community when the original thread started (linked in the Shrine no more post). I really enjoyed reading all the posts and most of them were from 10+ years ago.

I enjoyed the posts regarding Friley Dugeons, campus steam tunnels, all the posts about Gilgam and adjoining posts generally about ISU’s deep involvement w the Manhattan project and the posts about being on campus building roof tops.

However, one single poster posted twice about his experience as a wrester during winter while being a part of Coach Harold Nicols’s team.

I really enjoyed reading about his experience from a long time ago that was during ISU’s heyday as a wrestling powerhouse.

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

It was the leader in the voting in the Xmas thread movie poll, was in our comedy bracket challenge this summer (making the final four as a 6 seed) and The Rewatchables podcast did this as their Xmas movie choice this week.

So I decided to do a thread for people to post their favorite clips, thoughts on the movie and any interesting trivia on the film.

The Rewatchables revealed the when Clark goes crazy on the Santa and Reindeer Chevy broke a finger punching them so he switches to kicking them.

*** Official Christmas Day Thread ***

Merry Christmas to all here on CF (even our Iowa fan posters). I hope the day is spent with family and friends and that many get several ISU related gifts to add to your collection. Sure at times a few of us have words on here with each other but in the end we are bonded by our love for Iowa State.

I'm so thankful for the community we have here. Many here feel like extended family to me and I'm grateful for your friendship. It's truly the best Christmas gift I could ask for and I get it 365 days a year with CF.

On That Note: My Favorite Part

This week, we’re looking for songs that have a specific segment that's a favorite for you. It can be instrumental or lyrical (or even something like a sound effect).

If it's in the lyrics, please include the line along with your post. If it’s an instrumental portion, note approximate time it occurs within the track.

“On That Note” is presented weekly by @MeanDean, @cyclones500 and myself.

****Official 2023 Santa brought me what I wanted thread****

After 41+ years of marriage, the wife and I no longer exchange gifts and haven't for many years. Neither of us are materialistic and we don't need more "junk". If there is a need (or a want) we generally discuss it and decide to acquire it or not at that time. For us, waiting till Christmas (or even a birthday) really serves no purpose. This way we also receive the exact item we desired and avoid the returns/exchanges. I do remember the joy on her face when I did hit a homerun when picking out a gift but that was in the earlier years when jewelry or trinkets had more meaning than they do in our present lives. Just being there for each other is about the greatest gift we can give each other.
How do the rest of you view it and did you get what you wanted for Christmas? Was it a surprise or did you see it coming?

Holiday cooking thread

I know the holidays are often a time for get togethers and big family meals. Hams, rib roasts and the like. Is anyone doing anything special this year?

I usually do a prime rib, but our Christmas Day gathering is going to be light hors d'oeuvres and charcuterie this year. So, I thought I'd try my hand at making pork rillettes, because it seemed to fit the theme.

It's supposed to be better if it's had a couple days for the flavors to marry, so I was cooking today.

Not a tough recipe, just takes time, and so far the results are really good.

What are your top 3 christmas movies?

rate however you like. I'll rate by the 3 I would watch every year if I had to while excluding all others. If you consider it a christmas movie, that is good enough for me. I don't care if others don't consider it an xmas movie.

1. bad santa
2. elf
3. National lampoons xmas vaca

If I get enough feedback, maybe i'll turn this into a poll with all the movies mentioned in the comments

SIGNING DAY CENTRAL 2024

Hey y'all. Put together one of the biggest projects I've ever done for CF over the past couple weeks. I wanted to go all out for Signing Day this year and make it the norm for recruiting coverage here at CycloneFanatic.

It took a lot trying to track down all of the athletes for interviews, and we're still working on adding some more ahead of Wednesday. There's only about three that we haven't gotten a hold of out of the list, so stay tuned for that.

Appreciate all of you diehards for following along and I hope you enjoy it!
