Star Trek Universe Thread

https://screenrant.com/star-trek-2-new-films-confirmed-official/

After seeing this latest article where the newly merged ViacomCBS CEO stated there are currently 2 new Star Trek movies in development, combined with the major ramp-up of Star Trek shows on the CBS Streaming app, I figured it was high time for Star Trek to finally get its own ongoing thread for any fans like myself out there.

With that said, it really seems like things are looking super bright for Star Trek fans right now with the biggest brightest of which being the merger of CBS and Viacom. That merger finally effectively solidifies the decently long separated TV and movie rights of Star Trek under one roof, meaning there can be much better fluidity and continuity between the two. This is what I've been wanting for a long time and has been the biggest hindrance in my eyes to Star Trek truly thriving in the modern media landscape. Marvel and Star Wars are currently paving the way as to what the new high-budget shared universe concept can look like, and I think Star Trek can thrive itself in its own way under the same landscape.

Everyone, feel free to jump in with your thoughts on anything Star Trek related. Hopefully the Star Trek world keeps expanding and thriving, which would likely mean this thread could really thrive too. I've got lots of thoughts myself on Discovery, Picard, what I think these two new movies are..... etc, but I'll save that stuff for later posts.

I voted 9-9 and anything better than is gravy as that gets you into March. Below 9 wins and you are likely in the NIT with our poor non-con resume. This team is SOOOO unproven with no Q1 win as to start conference play..

Robert Jones Improvement

While this year might be a bit skewed due to no Big 12 opponents yet, its still remarkable how far he has come since his first year here. Props to him and the coaching staff coaching him up.

FS: Cinch Rodeo - Wells Fargo this Saturday - 01-13. 5 Tix- Good seats

I have 5 Tix for the Rodeo at Wells Fargo this Saturday. We were going with some friends and family from an hour away but they have 2 kids under 6 and don't want to travel with the impending storm and bitter cold.
Sec. 105 Row T, seats 16, 17, 18
Sec 105 Row U, seats 17, 18
Consecutive rows on the aisle. Pretty good seats. They were $65 each Face Value. $325 for the bundle, OBO. Shoot me a PM and let's talk !! Thanks !!

Do bowl games matter anymore?

Due to the transfer portal and opt outs the teams trotted out onto the field for bowl games are not the teams that earned that bowl game. For example look at Iowa. Due to transfers and 1 injury they will be sending out a QB that is either a rs freshman or a true freshman, neither of which have taken a single snap in a live college football game, will be with out key contributors at rb and wr in Gavin Williams, Arland Bruce, and Keagan Johnson. This doesn't even talk about opt outs.

I understand some of the opt outs being worried about injuries but at what point do we start to worry about that? Should they also opt out of conference championship games since they don't really mean anything? How about the last game of the regular season? Is it because there are so many bowls now, the kids just don't care, or something I just don't get? Does an expanded CFP give them more reason to finish the season out?

WBB: Jackson, Brown hit three's to push Iowa State to 3-0 Big 12 start

Arianna Jackson and Addy Brown were letting it fly from the 3-point line as Iowa State improved to 3-0 in Big 12 play in Bill Fennelly's 600th career win.

In Game Betting-Local teams?

I noticed during the ISU-Houston game last night that I could bet on every active game, except the ISU game was grayed out. Is there some kind of rule that doesn't allow this? I've read that you can bet on local player props and I know I could have bet before the game started. Sorry if I got the wording wrong, I gamble with the intelligence of a third grader.

***2023-2024 College MBB Survivor game***

I’ve been running a thread tracking the undefeated teams in men’s NCAA basketball for several years now, and have been thinking about making a friendly contest out of it. So I’m going to try it this year & see if it’s worth making it an annual game like the football survivor games and games around football bowls and the NCAA basketball tournament.

Rules:

*Week runs from Monday to Sunday. Week one begins November 6 and ends November 12.
*Pick up to three teams that will remain undefeated that week regardless of how many games they play.
*You cannot pick a given team more than once during the course of the game.
*You cannot pick a team that has lost a game (exhibition games are excluded)
*Any loss by one of their picked teams during that week eliminates the player.
*Failing to make any picks during a given week eliminates the player.
*All of your picks for a week (1,2 or 3) must be in the same post, and must be made before any of your picks tip off.

Exhibition games do not count, but midseason and end of season tournament games WILL count. Essentially, any game that will count against a team’s win/loss record will count. Exhibition games are games against D3 teams (or lower) that are not counted in a team’s win/loss count on ESPN. Example: in 2015 we played Grand Valley State. See post #18 for further clarification of which games count, and when.

I will post a list of remaining teams and players as soon as I can after the Sunday games are completed. The first couple of weeks, please be patient as there are a LOT of teams to be tracked.

Scoring:

5 pts for three correct picks

3 pts for 2 correct picks

1 pt for 1 correct pick

Winner is last player standing. In the event of a tie (given the number of teams, that's entirely possible), points will be the tie-breaker.

Please feel free to ask for clarification if you need it.
