On That Note: LVIII Edition

Since this weekend is the Super Bowl involving teams from Kansas City and San Francisco the topic will be songs that mention either city in the title or lyrics. We also accept Chief or 49.

In addition, we will accept songs mentioning other Northern California cities/towns/locations for the San Francisco option (sorry, yes, there is geography - No Southern CA locations, please!)

For KC will also accept songs that mention Kansas or any cities/locations within the state. Also, Missouri, but NOT St. Louis, unless it also mentions Missouri.

Lastly, we will also allow Las Vegas, as the site of Super Bowl LVIII.

The OTN for last week was Feeling Purdy Good:

New Reaction Time Episode

Hi crew,

New episode out this week. Ben and I were feeling a little unhinged and we made Aiden talk more on the pod this week. He's our producer and he is a big wrestling fan so thought we'd poke fun at him haha

Also here's a tweet on David Carr chatter.

Friday OT: Holiday hangover

How long do you leave up your Christmas tree, decorations and/or lights? For lights, how long do you leave them on at night after Christmas?

It seems like some neighborhoods shut it down almost immediately after Christmas, while others stay lit for weeks afterwards. I wondered if there was neighborly peer pressure to do one or the other.

If you saw the title and want to talk about your actual holiday hangover, that is also acceptable.

Non-Electric Lawnmowers

Since we have a thread on electric lawnmowers may as well have one on regular ones. I've been looking to upgrade my 21" push mower that I've had since 2004 when I bought my 1st house. It's a 4.5 HP Craftsman with a bagger and no self propel I think I paid $125 new at Sears so I've definitely got a lot of value out of it over the years. My issue now is I'm ready for an upgrade as I have a .28 acre lot that takes me around 90 minutes to mow with that mower and would like to save a little time and effort as when the grass is thick like it is right now that mower is a little underpowered.

Been looking at the Toro Timemaster which is a 30" push mower but between the price and some of the issues people have with it when I have researched it over the past 2 years or so I am hesitant to get serious about buying one. I don't want to go with a rider or zero turn mower as I think that is overkill for the size of my lawn and I'm still in my mid 40's and could use the extra physical rigor of mowing with a push mower. Any other affordable options out there for a larger walk behind mower that won't break the bank but still get the job done? Maybe I am overthinking the negatives with the Toro Timemaster as I hose down my mower after each mow and do regular maintenance on it so maybe some of the horror stories about the belts and pullies not being of good quality and it plugging up due to poor design are over exaggerated? Not coming up with good alternatives when I search either as most are commercial grade mowers out of my budget that I may as well buy a rider at those prices.

Iowa Beat Writers

OK here is what I've gathered over the last year on Iowa's main beat writers:

Chad - Lol where to begin with this guy. He worships Kirk and really likes Fran. Long time Iowa season ticket holder before he got in the industry. He has also spent some holidays with the Bohannon family and Jordan and him consider each other close friends

Eickholt - The worst offender by far. He has no credibility among coaches or the players. He'll try to write great things about the players so they'll allow him to go party with them

***The biggest thing with him is he pocketed his 247 per diem and shared a room with Frank Garza in Indianapolis for the NCAA Tournament***

Kakert - More of an Iowa basketball fan than football. He was legitimately distraught about the Bohannon news

Harty - Nobody takes him serious obviously

Doc - Zero credibility nationally because of his bias towards Iowa. He gets mocked a lot in the industry

Sanderson/Bock/Eickholt - All at the mercy of Iowa's football coaches, specifically Tyler Barnes. Barnes tells them what kind of content and how much content to put out on recruits or he'll make sure the recruits don't do interviews. They all willingly do it as they feel they are supporting the program they love by doing it

All of them are terrified of getting their credentials pulled and write and report with that in mind. There isn't a single person on the Iowa beat that isn't a huge Hawkeye fan actually.

Anyone or anything else I'm missing you guys have heard stuff on?

ISU Beats UCONN Retrospective

I saw this nice writeup of the 25th (!) anniversary of ISU beating UCONN in the NCAA Tournament. I thought others might enjoy the look back.
