*** 2023-2024 College Football Survivor Week 5 ***

Only lost 2 people almost everyone's pick who survived covered. @3rdCoastClone with a 3rd straight underdog pick winning.

Tiebreaker points return this year. A reminder regarding tiebreaker points: If your team wins and covers you gain an extra bonus point. If you take a undefeated team who is the underdog you gain the point for them covering plus another bonus point. As the season goes on the number of teams undefeated being a underdog greatly diminish so take advantage while you can.

I will be using ESPN's Lines. Line will be the line at kickoff for tiebreaker points

Caleb Bacon Shoutout

I had not heard of this guy before the beginning of the season. I looked him up for his recruiting profile and couldn’t find it anywhere! I’m assuming he must be a walk-on who made it on to the team.

In my opinion he’s been our best LB and a critical piece of the defense, just wanted to shout him out as he’s been a good player for us so far and I hope he’ll continue to improve

2003 vs 2023

I made a comment in the Ohio thread that the 2003 team would beat this team. It was heat of the moment, and obviously several people dumbed the post.

I stand corrected now that we have changed the offensive game plan from the Ohio and Iowa games.

But tonight's game reminded me of the OU game in 2003 (56 - 7, our only score being a JaMaine Billups Pick 6 on OU's backup).

Yes, the 2003 team was historically bad, but I think back on that year, and I still wonder how a HEALTHY 2003 team would fare.

Tyson Smith went down with a broken leg, Jordan Carstens went down for the year (broken arm I think?), Bob Montgomery was out for the year, and Hiwatha Rutland was out for the year a few games into the season, hell, even Yelk went down so we were without our starting punter. Stevie Hicks replaced Rutland, but Michael Wagner seemed to shoulder most of the running duties.

Hell, with the exception of Zach Butler at Center, our entire starting offense from 2002 was back, minus Seneca (correct me on the O-Line though). I don't recall much from the defense though other than Tyson, Billups, and Carstens returning (please remind me).

Keep Flynn as the starter all year (I am a bit biased with that one), and don't switch between Flynn, Cris Love, and Waye Terry every other game (it was after the OU game that began), and if the entire team was healthy for the year, how would that team have fared? 4 wins? 5 wins? We only won two games that year. UNI and Ohio.

How would an entirely healthy 2003 offense fare against the defense we saw tonight?

Am I the only one seeing a lot of parallels between 2003 and 2023? Losing starters (injuries/gambling), freshman QB, coaching tenure (Mac 9th year, Campbell 8th year), etc.

NFL: Levi Stadium Tailgating/Bars

Headed to the Cowboys @ 49ers game at Levi Stadium in a week and curious about the tailgating/bar scene near the stadium.

Plan to leave downtown San Fran around noon to head towards the area and want a place to hang and preferably watch football within walking distance of the stadium.

Look forward to any suggestions!

*** OFFICIAL 2023 OKLAHOMA LOOK-ALIKE THREAD ***

We've been lacking in this so far this season! I'm not sure how much interest there still is, so let's give it a try.

For those of you new to this, the idea is to post a picture of an Oklahoma player and a picture of the person (or object :p...) they look like.

Players are HERE: https://soonersports.com/sports/football/roster?path=football

For coaches, click "coaches" near the top right.

Iowa Beers Release/Distribution Thread

Perhaps this already exists but I haven't seen it. I think it'd be helpful for the beer enthusiast community here at CF to keep a running thread of when local beer releases are happening, as well as when/where the releases are distributed. Kind of a continuous thread to keep us all in the loop and help each other find great beer.

A couple currently:

-Big Grove's Big Ed hit DSM metro stores this week. As of this morning, Ankeny Prairie Trail Hy vee had about 20 four-packs for $14.99. Big Ed may be the very best NEIPA made in Iowa.
-Big Grove Colorado Smuggler is getting released at the brewery this week, and should be in the metro around this time next week. IMO, this is the second best NEIPA that BG makes.
-There are still four packs of Founders KBS Mackinac Fudge floating around. Not an Iowa brew but I know one that has had alot of hype (and its very very tasty). Huxley Fareway is a little honey hole for it. 4-5 four packs left for $19.99
-Confluence DDH Des Moines IPA dry hopped with Cashmere and Nelson Sauvin is all over the state right now. Don't sleep on these; and stellar deal for $10.99.
-TG Hopsmack is in the metro if you still get excited about TG IPA's (IMO they've been surpassed by a few other local breweries). There was plenty at North Ankeny Hyvee this morning.
-North Ankeny HyVee also has a few bottles left of Surly Darkness 2020. I'd assume they're floating around most of the state right now.
