Jim Bouton is gone

The author of the most irreverent, talked-about sports book of the 1970s has died. Jim Bouton, author of Ball Four, passed away yesterday at the age of 80.

Bouton wrote his book - more or less a diary of the 1969 MLB season - while pitching for the Seattle Pilots (who would go on to become the Milwaukee Brewers) and the Houston Astros. His book gave readers a view into all the funny, nasty, goofy things that happen when talented young men are together on a daily basis.

I loved the book - I still use quotes from it. If you want to read a genuinely funny and honest book, do yourself a favor and find a copy.

ISU vs UNLV 2021-FB

The game is 2 and half years away; however, this will be my first big trip away from my newborn son, so i'm already excited about it. Vegas itself will be a blast and this will provide Cyclone fans a more affordable road trip than a lot of the basketball tournaments. Wondering if people are already pumped and planning for this, and if so what to expect from a tailgating perspective. We are planning our guys trip for this weekend and besides the game will be doing:

Poker tourney
Hash House a Go Go
Saw Escape Room
Twilight Zone Mini Golf
Downtown

Misc: Injury Risks Young pros face

Thought this was an interesting article from ESPN. It is specifically about NBA players but I think it can be applied across all sports. Don't agree with everything they say in there but there is a lot of good stuff. I think that the miles put on young kids these days in their sports is definitely a problem. My nieces play softball and you see young kids like 12 years old getting ligament tears or other other injuries like that. They play year round and play a ridiculous amount of games. And the focus on one sport is another problem.

I think the push for higher intake of dairy products is off though.

Leaf Guard

Going to be in the market for new gutters on my house. Does anyone have experience with the Leaf Guard products? Do the leaves still get caught on top of the Leaf Guard or do they easily blow off? Are they truly effective, or would I still have to go up and clean the gutters a couple times a year? My backyard has a number of trees, and some younger maples that are continuing to grow, so I definitely have that exposure.
Thanks!

Coaches who bully and harass kids

Hey I was just looking for some advice on a situation that I hoped that my family would not have to experience.

My 13 year old was on a travel baseball team this year for the 3rd year in a row and this is a team I have coached the past 2 years and handed it over to another guy who really wanted to do it who had helped me coach for the 1st 2 years.

Long story short he picked on my son all season. We documented all things he has said to him from he is too slow not good enough doesn’t have a good enough arm. Stuff beyond hard coaching. I am fine with motivational tactics but not so much with extra stuff like this.

The thing is this guy seems to hate me for whatever reason. He got into my face during a game last year because I coached the pitchers and they weren’t throwing enough strikes. I should have known better than to have my son play for him.

My wife initially talked to him, it didn’t stop, I talked to him and then had the owners of the club we play out of talk to him. Multiple parents have reported him to the club. Now there is a new owner of the club and we have been in touch with what had occurred. She is goin got get his side of the story. We aren’t going back to this team but tbh I don’t want him to do this to other kids.

Do I have any ability for legal action in a bullying/harassment type of case? I feel like we have gone through the right channels and nothing has stopped this guys behavior. He should not be able to coach kids which is what I want to prevent. Any advice would be appreciated.

Any Experience with Venture Capital Investments

I'm looking at making an investment in a Company that is currently doing their Series B Capital Funding. This would be a personal investment. I know the company fairly well and have dealt with some of their management team in the past.

I'm getting ready to sign a NDA and that will give me access to their investor information. But I'm early in the process and have never explored this before.

Has anyone here had experience with this? Probably most interested in things to watch out for in this type of situation.
