Advice for quitting drinking for a month

Hello all!
So a little backstory, I drank really heavily when I was in college like 5 days a week and since then I really haven't binge drank except maybe 9 times in over 8 years.

Since my crazy undergrad days, I've had about 2 standard drinks per day, averaging for a total of 14 per week, trying to keep in line with what the previous health studies said about drinking in moderation. Mostly because I was using those 2 drinks as a night cap to fall asleep quicker.
I never had a reason to quit because it wasn't hurting my relationships, my job, and my health. (usually the signs that you need to quit drinking)

Well I'm having a lot of digestive problems and decided I would take a month off booze to see if I could reset everything. (since I haven't really given my body a true break since graduating college.)

Anything to look out for or helpful recommendations for anyone else who has done this? 31 years old btw

Thank you

Friday OT #1 - Jump the Shark

Thanks so much to @Farnsworth for this topic!

“At what point do you give up on a show you are interested in? Do you feel the need to hold out to see how it ends?”

I will let him give his example, but I tend to be sort of a completionist - with books, movie series, and TV shows. There was no reason to watch the last season of Scrubs, but I had committed to it.

How about you?

Friday OT #2 - It’s Too Late, Baby

I was a hot mess this morning. I usually have to take my youngest to school, but they have the day off in Ames. As such, I was able to snooze my alarm, and I apparently turned it off in the process. I woke up about 20 minutes before I needed to be on work remotely.

Fortunately, I am pretty low maintenance. I could be laptop-camera ready in time, if not properly caffeinated. My hair is very curly, so it is more of a matter of beating it into submission than it is “doing” it. Not a big fan of most makeup, and I shower and lay out my clothes for the next day at night.

Are you high-maintenance or low-maintenance? How long does it take you to get ready in the morning - do you require a morning shower to wake up? Do you prep for the next day at night?

Trent Condon

The first 15 minutes of Miller and condon on Monday were hilarious. I do like their show alot because I'm a gambler and I love their guests alot but listening to Trent yesterday was something else. He has made fun of cyclone fans for years for blaming the refs for losses. Saying it was a bad call but play better cyclones and it doesn't matter. Stop whining. Listening to him go crazy yesterday was hilarious.

Did 'you're on the hot seat' turn the season around?

Did the video of the guy telling CMC that he's on the "hot seat" motivate him and the team?

  • No, our team was following the process and was going to turn it around anyway

  • Yes, it pi$$ed CMC off and motivated him to do a better job coaching and motivating his players.

Since that video surfaced we've gone 3-1 and have looked much better both on offense and defense. But most notably the O line has done a better job blocking for our RB's.
Do you think that motivated CMC and the team or had no influence at all?

Come On You Spurs - Tottenham 2023

Preface: I'm nearing retirement age, never played soccer and am a relative newcomer to the EPL, having selected Spurs as "my team" in 2008. I won't pretend to know as much as others and I'm not interested in mixing it up with fans of rival clubs.

These are unprecedented times for Spurs, at least those of us who weren't born yet during the 1960 & 1961 seasons. Only time will tell if Spurs can maintain form over the course of an entire season, but even if they don't, there are many positive items to discuss, including but not necessarily limited to:

1) Ange Postecoglu - I follow a club in Scotland (Hibernian) so I knew he was the manager at Celtic, but I'm not going to pretend I saw this coming. What a breath of fresh air after Antonio Conte & Jose Mourinho! Positive attitude, exciting football and commitment to developing young players, plus he's quick with a sound bite. Is this a dream?

2) Excellent Facilities - Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (New WHL!) and Training Grounds at Hotspur Way - Has anybody been there? A co-worker recently vacationed in London and attended the Spurs / Liverpool game - he sent me photos and it's amazing - World"s Longest Bar! Definitely a bucket list item for me.

3) Commitment to developing young players on the First Team and in the Academy ranks. The list of players 22 and Under on the main squad includes Mickey Van de Ven, Destiny Udogie, Pepe Sarr, Brian Gil, Brennan Johnson, Ashley Philips and Alejo Veliz.

I love minor league baseball and I love reading the Spurs commentators who focus on the youth ranks - Ange seems excited about the kids and so am I! Jamie Donley, Alfie Dorrington, Will Lankshear, Charlie Sayers, Yago Santiago are a few names we could see sooner rather than later. I'm happy to wait for 16 year-old's Mikey Moore and Luka Vuskovic!

Into every life a little rain must fall, and Spurs aren't without problems.

I) Daniel Levy & Joe Lewis - when Conte departed, the only thing I agreed with in his rant was, "this team has won nothing in twenty years under current ownership". Will Joe Lewis' problems with insider trading have any consequences for Spurs?

2) Bloated Payroll from Poor Signings we're unable to sell, even at a loss, namely Ndombele, Reguilon & Spence - I still have some hope Joe Rodon can have a great season at Leeds and maybe play a role at Spurs in the future!

3) Looming specter of Sheikh Jassim and the Qatar contingent. While it would be nice to have virtually unlimited funds, I don't want to be like PSG or Manchester City, I like the way Spurs develop from within and purchase "moderately" priced players during transfer windows.

Apologies for the length, but I'm excited about the club for obvious reasons and I'm hoping other Spurs fans are as well. #COYS

On That Note: Night of the Vampire

Since it’s October, we at OTN want to do something with a Halloween tie-in. This week, the topic is focused solely one one Halloween monster/creature: the vampire.

We’re looking for songs with the words vampire, Dracula, bite/biting, suck, blood and other associated terms. It may appear in either/both the title or lyrics.

“On That Note” is presented weekly by @MeanDean, @cyclones500 and myself.
