Ames Lager Tailgate -- Feb. 24th

Come help us build a better Ames Lager pyramid!

We are having another Ames Lager tailgate on Saturday between the MBB and WBB games. Look for the white trailer, Ames Lager flag, and CycloneFanatics hanging out in the C3 or C4 lot (we will probably be in C3 just north of Center Drive).

Serving burgers, hot dogs, chips, salsa, cookies, Ames Lager, other beers, NA’s, seltzers, pop, and water.

No charge. “We will” give all contributions to the We Will Collective.

2024-2025 Recruiting Thread

LaDarion Lockett has Iowa State in his top 7. #6 PFP recruit according to Flo and #2 according to MatScouts for the 2025 class. List of schools below:

Arizona State
Cornell
Iowa
Iowa State
Little Rock
Minnesota
Oklahoma State

Think it will be hard to beat out Oklahoma State for him seeing as he grew up a Cowboy fan and is from Stillwater, but let's see what the staff can do.

Seth Davis actually has…good rankings?

Honestly hit and miss with Davis mostly miss but his latest rankings make a ton of sense to me.

Houston #1. Iowa State #5. Kansas nowhere near top ten at #14.

Williams & Blum: Omaha or Big 12 title? Women stay on right side of the bubble

Enjoy!

What music are you listening to right now?

I feel like there are quite a few music aficionados on CF and I have even discovered new bands on here. I wanted to start a thread where we could share what we are currently listening to and just talk music.

I couldn't find another thread like this but admittedly I haven't used the search function a whole lot.

I will start. Currently listening through City and Colour's If I Should Go Before You album and am really enjoying it!

Cyclones in the pros 2023-2024 (hoops)

Well, it's almost my favorite season of the year - basketball - and we've had some lively threads discussing Georges, Tyrese, Monte etc. So I wanted to get this year's thread started and I've again labeled it "in the pros" as I've dug up some info that I'll share on Naz and Matt who are playing at a high level overseas. I'm going to various posts on the two of them since the NBA regular season is a ways off but they've started domestic leagues in Europe.

So, for the OP, let's just remind ourselves of where the NBA guys are (the ones that I can think of off the top of my head while caffeine is still kicking in):

Tyrese Haliburton - Indiana Pacers: Signed the largest contract probably of any ex ISU athlete in the off-season. Played some great hoops for Team USA in the World Cup this summer.

Georges Niang - Cleveland Cavaliers: After AGAIN shooting 40% from beyond the arc, he signed a 3-year, $26-million contract.

Monte Morris - Detroit Pistons: Traded to an up-and-coming squad. I'm not sure if he's looking at a starting role or if they'll bring him off the bench.

Talen Horton-Tucker - Utah Jazz: Kind of yo-yo'd between out of the rotation and starting some games last year for the surprising Jazz. His offensive production - specifically, his outside shooting - has been inconsistent.

Lindell Wigginton - Milwaukee Bucks: Perhaps this should say "Milwaukee Bucks" because I don't know that he has an NBA contract. He spent the entire G-League season playing for the Bucks' affiliate ("Herd") and got a cup of coffee in the NBA at the end of the season in Milwaukee. The Bucks have brought in Dame Lillard and signed ex Prohm-an centurion, Cam Payne, so the small guard minutes are, well, taken.

Deonte Burton - Sacramento Kings. He got in 2 games last year for the Kings and is back in there camp. Might end up being a G League season for the Human Highlight Reel.

Am I missing anyone?

WBB: 2023-24 Former Cyclones Now at Other Schools Tracker

There is a similar "tracking" thread for MBB transfers and I saw a list @iccyfan had in a post in another thread and think it was enough for it's own thread. Here's iccyfan's list:
  • Morgan Kane and Madison Frederick at Nova Southeastern
  • Maggie Espenmiller-McGraw at Montana
  • Kylie Feuerbach at Iowa
  • Aubrey Joens at Oklahoma
  • Lexi Donarski at UNC
  • Denae Fritz at Baylor
  • Maggie Vick at Pepperdine
This isn't a thread to diss the transfers or speculate on why they left, plenty of that in the individual transfer threads for each player. If you have no interest in them, fine, just don't spam the thread.

Help Me Understand ESPN

I have ESPN plus on my Apple TV. When our game starts late it says go to the ap. So I went to my ESPN plus that I pay for to find our game. I found it, but can't watch. So apparently I have to download the ESPN AP? Why do I have to do that when I already pay ESPN for ESPN plus? So when I went to download it it won't let me watch unless I subscribe or pay the monthly fee to do so. If I understand this right, in order to watch ISU basketball I have to pay for ESPN plus to watch our games that are on there but also have to pay for a subscription for the ESPN AP to catch our games that get moved because of another game.

2023-2024 MBB computer projections thread

Hello there.

I know this thread is normally one started in the fall a few weeks before the basketball season begins, but with so much about the roster already changing and changes coming through portal season, I thought I would start it now and lean on the Bart Torvik ("BT") preseason projections @JStanz51 featured here.

The "vanilla" BT projections right now have Iowa State as the #54 team in the country next year --

I think you all would notice that roster is incomplete and thus incorrect -- Robert Jones is confirmed to be returning for his fifth season, I think CW's article about Tre King makes it clear he is going to be back for another season, and while we have not heard any official word, I think the rumor is Hason Ward will return.

So adding those three back gives you --

Iowa State is now projected as the #30 team in the country. The updated offensive efficiency would be tied for #59 in the country (with the College of Charleston) and the defense would be #14 in the country (slightly behind San Diego State and ahead of Arkansas). Last year was #30 overall, #122 offense, and #7 defense.

As I have mentioned before, the BT model for offense depends on the offensive rating of the players on the roster while the defense is projected as a "steady state" year-to-year. So the model thinks adding Omaha, Milan, and Williams will improve the offense while the defense is more about team culture and coaching.

Here are the teams around #30 in the country from this season. Iowa State being #30 again is a funny coincidence. All of them made the tournament save mid-major North Texas in the NIT --

I will update this periodically if and when there is further action in the transfer portal. The team clearly needs more backcourt depth. That being said, assuming TJ and Kyle Green can coach the same fire on defense into them, the roster next year as it is right now already has the potential to be very competitive.

Much is going to depend on Omaha and Milan being "hits" pretty quickly and Williams returning to form after the injury. Lipsey is going to need to be a dude with that many minutes and that usage, too.
