Iowa State’s three-star wide receiver commit Beni Ngoyi visited Nebraska over the weekend, touring the school and football program with new head coach Matt Rhule leading the way now.

The Lincoln native has been committed to Iowa State since July, but wanted to see what the new blood in town had to offer in Lincoln.

“This new Nebraska staff – I didn’t really get recruited too hard by the old staff,” Ngoyi said. “They offered me late, so I just wanted to give these new dudes a chance and be able to get to know them. That’s pretty much the process.”

It’s brought a level of concern to Iowa State’s staff, seeing a commit take a visit elsewhere with just a number of days separating them from a decision.

“They’re a little concerned because I’m over here visiting my hometown school,” Ngoyi said. “That definitely brought some concerns to them.”

Ngoyi values the culture behind a program and in the people that are at the lead of it.

Although, he said similar things about both programs.

“Probably just their culture and the way they go about things,” Ngoyi said. “This new Nebraska staff – they recruited with a lot of energy. Same with Iowa State – they brought a lot of energy to show me how bad they want me.”

Being in a spot like Ngoyi is in is never ideal for a college recruit. He’s got less than half a week to make a decision where he’ll be for three years or more.

“Yeah, it is (tough),” Ngoyi said. “I feel like there’s two different angles where I could end up at.”

Ngoyi will make the choice between Iowa State and Nebraska on Wednesday, during the official early signing period announcements.

“That’s the plan. Just waiting for the signing day period to just really get it down to the bone.”
