Iowa State has its eyes set on six of the top prospects available in the state of Iowa to fill out its 2023 recruiting class.
The class, currently made up of seven players, already has two commitments from Iowa products in four-star quarterback J.J. Kohl and 6-foot-7 tight end Carson Rhodes.
Iowa State hopes Des Moines North’s David Caulker can join them.
“It would be pretty cool,” Caulker said. “The only one I’ve met is Jamison (Patton), because I went to school with him.”
Caulker will be attending Iowa State’s official visit weekend in June, which will host both targets and already committed athletes in Ames during the second weekend of the month.
Each of the pair of in-state commitments to the 2023 class will be in attendance as well as Ankeny ATH Jamison Patton.
“I don’t really know much about official visits, but I’m looking forward to that weekend,” Caulker said.
The edge rusher from Des Moines North High School stands at 6-foot-4, 230 pounds and is rated as the No. 12 prospect coming out of the state.
He currently holds offers from Iowa State – which he picked up earlier this month – Missouri, Minnesota, Nebraska and Northern Illinois.
“After I worked out in front of Coach Link at Mizzou, that kind of just set things in motion,” Caulker said. “The next day, my coach told me that Coach Campbell wanted to meet with me the following Wednesday.”
It’s not often that a player out of Des Moines North lands at a Power 5 school.
Caulker wears that designation with pride and knows that it shouldn’t surprise people.
“It’s just something that people don’t expect at all,” Caulker said. “It can be really surprising for some people to see someone out of Des Moines get an offer, but I’m not the only person here – there’s multiple players on our team that have D1 talent.”
