Below is a press release from Iowa State athletic communications.

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State head men’s basketball coach Fred Hoiberg announced today that Eric McKnight, a freshman forward from Raleigh, N.C., will transfer to another school. McKnight asked for and has been granted his release to pursue opportunities at other schools.

“I sat down with Eric after the season ended and he indicated to me of his desire to see more time on the court,” Hoiberg said. “We mutually agreed his opportunity for more playing time would be better suited at another school. I appreciate Eric’s hard work and dedication to our program and I understand his wish to contribute more minutes to a team. We will help Eric out any way possible to find a school that fits him the best.”

McKnight played in 14 games in his only season as a Cyclone this past season (2010-11), averaging 1.1 points and 0.6 rebounds.

“I want to thank all of the fans, the coaching staff and my teammates at Iowa State,” McKnight said. “I enjoyed my time as a part of the Cyclone basketball family. However, I feel that it is in my best interest to transfer to another program where I can have an opportunity to contribute more to the team.”
