Doing this Trip this Summer 1 Night in Cody, 2 in Yellowstone at Canyon Village and 5 Nights in Jackson Hole.

Looking for recommendations for really the Jackson Hole time, using it as a staying place to do the Teton and areas South of Yellowstone.

Doing the Cody Rodeo while in Cody and all the Yellowstone things while in the park. What about things while Staying in Jackson Hole.

If your plan while you are in Jackson is to head north back to the Tetons and areas south of Yellowstone, I wouldn't stay in Jackson. You will spend too much time traveling back & forth. I would stay in Teton National Park. I would recommend Jackson Lake Lodge. It is centrally located in the park and has beautiful views of Jackson Lake & the Tetons.

I would recommend the following things to see/do when in the Tetons:
  • Jenny Lake
  • Jackson Lake Dam
  • Signal Mtn.
  • Mormon Row
  • Snake River Rafting
  • Hiking/Biking/Kayaking
I would recommend taking a tour of the Tetons on your first day to get a good idea of the area. Then you can go back on your own to explore/hike areas that interest you.

I would also drive from Cody to Red Lodge, MT. From Cody take the Chief Joseph Hwy (Hwy 296) to the Beartooth Hwy (Hwy 212). Plan on stopping at Dead Indian Outlook, Clark Canyon Outlook & Beartooth Summit. You will not be disappointed.

I would spend the night in Red Lodge and take a day off Jackson. From Red Lodge you can then back track thru the Beartooth and enter Yellowstone thru the NE gate near Silvergate, MT.

Thanks for the insight. The 5 nights in Jackson are pretty firm. Using Points at a newer Marriott Property called the Cloudveil right off Jackson Square. Saving many dollars using the points.

I will definitely look up those places you recommended.

Thanks.

I love the Tetons, they are awesome looking. My son and his wife went fly fishing. The guide taught them how and then took them on the river to fish. They said it was fun and absolutely beautiful.

Make sure you go to the Cody Cattle Company. You get a great western meal, 1 hour concert, and tickets to the rodeo. You will not be disappointed by any part and is a reasonable price. The drive out of Cody and back to Iowa is beautiful until you hit Nebraska.

The good thing about Jackson Hole is that it gives you lots of flexibility. Even Yellowstone isn’t that far if you find you want to spend some extra time there. Plus Jackson Hole has more options at night.
We as a family really enjoyed driving around the parks and seeing the wildlife in both Teton and Yellowstone.

If you haven't planned on it I would recommend driving through the Bighorn Mountains. Gorgeous. This is the route I took when I left Yellowstone rom the East side

Looking at the map of that route there is an Iowa State University Geology Field Camp off that main road. Looks like they hold a 6 week summer class at the location. Who knew. Sounds pretty cool if I were an ISU Geology Student.

These are great suggestions. I would add inspiration point and the hidden falls at Jenny lake. Maybe plan a horseback ride in the Tetons. Our family had a great time. Aldo, just drive a little ways out of Jackson at night and check out the stars.

We put my moms ashes at schwabacher landing. It’s just north of moose and might be one of the most beautiful spots I know of on this planet.
Oh - and hit the million dollar cowboy bar when in Jackson. You won’t be disappointed.
Enjoy your trip!

1. Get the Gypsy app for Yellowstone
2. Rent or buy a good scope. The traffic backups will point you to the action.
3. Grand Prismatic was the only place we had trouble parking. Just park on the side of the road and walk.
4. I'm fat but could handle the hike at Jenny Lake in the Grand Tetons. First you do a boat ride. Worth it.

Here is a video of our trip from 2 years ago

Spend a day or two in Cheyenne at Frontier Days on your way in late July. You will fall in love with the American West.

Stayed at the Jackson Lake Lodge 3 years ago...well worth the $. The views are fantastic and there are plenty of low-stress walking trails...decent food choices and you can branch out both North and South to do the sights. We really enjoyed the raft and dinner trip...very good chow and the raft trip was basically a central Iowa float.

The views at sunrise and sunset are incredible.

We stayed in Jackson for a couple days 2 summers ago. Absolutely gorgeous, but I found Cody to be more my speed.

For a mild hike in Teton park start at the Lupine Meadows trailhead and head up towards Delta Lake. You may not want to go all the way, but you don't have to go that far to get some incredible views.

If you're staying near the town square, hit up Roadhouse Brewing. It overlooks the square and has absolutely phenomenal beer. Merry Piglets (a Mexican restaurant) is just north of the square and was excellent. Melvin Brewing Co has a location in Jackson with a killer Thai restaurant (Thai Me Up). Snake River Brewing makes some damn good beer, but they were closed due to COVID when we visited. StillWest Brewing was my least favorite of the breweries there too. For breakfast, hit Pearl Street Bagels.
