Was anyone able to make sense of Dolph's game calling yesterday? Western Michigan would throw a pass, there would be a pause as Dolph's brain apparently wrestled with situation, then a nonchalant announcement that the pass was complete. Finally, he'd come out with the admission that it had been a 40 yard play and the ball was inside the 15 yard line. When things got really hairy, Dolph brought out the biggest big gun in the Hawkeye spin machine: This was Western Michigan's Bowl Game. Dolph is well and truly in the same league now with the legendary Zipper.

Iowa is so good, they are everyone's bowl game. My guess is that the Patriots would have to play their best game ever to hang with Iowa.

I don't understand why Iowa plays out of conference games. They have everything to lose and nothing to gain.:cute:

If they win, they are expected to win, but if they lose, they are the other teams super bowl. Iowa should really drop all the other schools because it does Iowa no good to play these teams.

I turned him on for a little towards the end. Couldn't make sense of what was going on so I turned over from ABC as our game was out of hand. What he was saying about what was going on on the field was so off, I wondered if I had turned to the right game on the radio.

I have noticed this before with the Iowa broadcast team. I thought it was kind of funny when Mediacom would have the replays with the radio calls. There were a lot of "..remember when we were so good" and things like that. Not to mention I felt the broadcast was that of an entirely different game because what they were saying did not match the game.

I had no idea EIU was Western Michigan's superbowl...
Now I'm jealous...I thought we were their superbowl :skeptical:

As someone who has lived outside of the state of Iowa for over 10 years now, is this Dolph Pulliam (sp?) you're talking about? Is he the Hawkeyes announcer now? I remember watching his sportscasts for a good laugh. Every score had to have a unique verb even if it didn't match the score. "The Cubs crushed the Phillies 2 to 1. The Yankees clubbed the Twins, 4 to 3."

In the pregame I distinctly remember one of the squawks saying don't be surprised if western michigan comes out and plays with a lot of heart today since its their "super bowl" of their season. And why wouldn't the vs the squawks be much more important to the players then their games against 2 teams ranked in the top 6 nationally as well as their more important conference game

Not Dolph Pulliam, former Drake BBall player.
Gary Dolphin, been the pbp guy for the hawks post-Zable.

Whoever was doing the big10 network call was not bad, but we were having so much fun watching that, that the sound could have been off for all I cared.

I actually watched the end of their game on TV and I was loving it. One because I hate the Hawkeyes but more importantly, the meltdown all next week will be great radio/tv/message board entertainment for me.

the clarity of the HD picture for the Big11Ten network for last nights Iowa game was FANTASTIC. the HD picture for ABC in the Cyclone game yesterday was miserable.

A good reason for that may have been the fact that ABC was not broadcasting the ISU/KU game in HD.

ABC is apparently too cheap to have more than 2 sets of HD cameras and broadcasting equipment.

Dolphin is terrible in how he calls the games. You never know what is going on, as he does color commentating when he should be doing the plays.

Our game was not broadcasted in HD.

After two false starts... Gary and Ed were insisting that the Western Michigan Dline was barking out snap calls.

Ive never heard of an announcer and fan base that makes up excuses so fast.
