Wine glass cutting tools/advice.

The fiance and I are wanting to use a set of wine bottles with a fake candle inside for our table centerpieces and therefore we need to remove the bottom of the wine bottle. We have yet to find an easy way to complete such task and am looking for a tool to ease in the process or a method that is fairly easy to complete.

if someone has a tool we can borrow or know of somewhere we can get such tools it'd be greatly appreciated.

I would think a regular stained glass cutter would do the job. Score the bottom of the bottle with the cutting wheel, wet the score with water, tap around the score with the metal ball on the handle, and then tap firmly on the bottom until it breaks off.

The hard part is that to really do it well (not jagged), you have to put pressure on the opposite side of the score if you're using a traditional glass cutter. With scoring the outside and tapping from the inside, you end up with a series of peaks.

I'd suggest renting a wet tile saw (or borrowing one) and using slow feeding.

*caveat* I haven't used the tile saw method, but I've used the scoring method. Either that method or my technique stunk. Not ruling out the latter, but I used to cut glass as part of my job.
