Why not groom Messingham?

We're not anyone's little sister. We are Iowa State. We are not tOSU or USC or even Tejas, but realistically we will not be a BCS perennial - nor am I sure we really want to be. But beating ranked teams and making the whole situation crazy in college football and going to bowls is a great thing.... and keeps me buying season tickets to see what happens.

With an awesome defense, why not groom Courtney Messingham as OC? If the guy has has as much potential as Rhoads has entrusted him with then it might be worth some patience. I saw a lot more playbook Saturday with Courtney.

Hell, we're 4-1. If we can dish out some patience it is now. Let the guy do his job and learn to do it better. As Cyclones, we have a unique situation - we have time - we've seen the hard times, let's build something. Give it time. If it doesn't work, we'll get a new load of bricks and mortar and build it again.

Wonder how the Steelers make it to the playoffs every 3 years? They just dig in and do it. They get behind their guys and do the best they can. I see ISU as the same - let's get the best guys we can and develop them and support them and see what happens.

I have no problems with this. Always being competitive makes you eligible for conference titles and Bowls, and even NC's if you have a magic year.

But you need patience, talent, and coaching. Or you can buy Cam Newton - that's the other option.

Tell this to McDonough, Klein, and Knott. I'm guessing they'd disagree. Next year will be the year to have patience because the D is going to take some time to get back to the level of play we're witnessing this year. The coaches need to have a sense of urgency as wins will be even tougher to come by starting next season.

Do you mean groom him to be a head coach? How about we try to go a week without either wanting to run him out of town on a rail or promoting him to god-like status and just see how the season plays out?

If Mess isn't our OC then what is his title? I thought he got promoted to OC when Menza left.

Read the OP a couple times and still have no idea what it means...If any assistant on our current staff is worthy of being "groomed", it's probably Shane to eventually take over for Wally.
