Because they are so predictable.
We have team day at the office on Fridays. Not a single stitch of Hawkeye apparel to be seen. The few I've talked to claim they didn't know there was a game tonight and aren't interested in watching.

Ignorance is bliss. With this group, that should be a given....:spinny:

Hopefully Royce and the boys play at their full potential tonight.

I can't wait until their football team continues their decline and we get to deal with less and less of them.

Thing is, though, neither basketball team has been great the past few years. Mike Hlas, from the Gazette, wrote an article last year detailing how that was the least hype he'd ever seen for the Iowa State-Iowa basketball game, as both programs were so down. Interesting perspective, and I actually kind of agree with him. The hype won't come back fully until at least one team is a sure tournament team.

Win in IC next fall and watch what happens. I know Hawk "fans" that stop paying attention as soon as they lose more than 1 game in a football season. The worst part for them is that ISU is looking better so they can't even bring us down with their ship ha

Honestly, I think the Iowa fans in my office really aren't aware of the game. They've basically given up completely on basketball to the point that they don't follow it at all.

I remember that article. I like Hlas, he is a pretty good journalist IMO.

Thing is, me and the other 8k diehards that have been showing up at Hilton year after year for the past 6 years realize the season isn't over till we lose in the Big 12 Tournament. Point being, CYCLONE FANS RULE!!!!!!!!!

Hawk fans here already cashed in the season. They're expecting to get routed tonight.

Yeah, that's not happening :)

I think it's so funny how they immediately start talking how they need to drop the in-state schools from their schedule as they have nothing to gain. Just like the football line that it's our SuperBowl!! So stupid.

Be careful what you wish for. Remember... 90% of hok fans are bandwagon jumping tavern-hoks and with ISU on the rise and the hoks on the decline they could abandon ship from Iowa and try to climb on board with ISU. We don't need a legion of tavern-clones.

Now before everyone jumps on this post saying that any increase in the fan base is a good thing they need to stop and think about what they are saying. Increasing the fan base is only a good thing if those new fans are attending games, potentially donating to the athletic department, buying merchandise, etc.... Buying an old t-shirt or a starter jacket from Goodwill and then sitting on the bar stool at the end of the local bar and being an obnoxious a-hole is not going to help ISU.

Add more of these fans...

Since I moved back to Iowa, I've noticed that it's REALLY hard to find somebody who's passionate (or even follows) college basketball. That NEVER used to be the case when I was younger.

Folks here like it when UNI or Drake does well, but it's not like they actively follow those teams. There's just a lot of apathy about both the Hawks and Cyclones, and I think it's from the long stretch of mediocrity from both teams.

I hope both teams get better, if only because my friends, neighbors, and co-workers might once again be interesting in discussing college hoops.

ISU hasn't made the tourney since 2005 and Iowa hasn't made it since 2006. It's no wonder this game has less and less hype each year.
