TJ is 1-3 against Mike Boynton and ISU is 1-7 over the last 8 games. The last home win was 1/21/2020

The last three for TJ's squad against the Cowboys have been BRUTAL to watch:

  1. 2/11/2023 - Home Loss, only scoring 56
  2. 1/21/2023 - Away Loss, only scoring 59
  3. 3/2/2022 - Home Loss, only scoring 36
  4. 1/26/2022 - Away WIN, OT win by 3, scored 84 (Brockington Game)

I'm riding high off the Houston win, but a quite concerned we take a BAD loss on Saturday...

Last year they had long athletes (Kaleb Boone and Tyreek Smith) and elite rim protection (Moussa Cisse) which gave them a top 10 defense in the country.

This year their defense is ranked #72 nationally and they have freshmen (albeit highly ranked guys) playing major minutes. The guard transfer they got from ECU, Javon Small, has been a bright spot. He'll be a key to slow down.

This is a game we need to win.

Was watching late night hoops on FS1 and was surprised to see Boone playing at UNLV this season

Agree that it is a must win.

I'm concerned about several things.

  1. They like to shoot A LOT of threes
    1. We have given up a lot of good looks this year
  2. They are a good defensive rebounding team
  3. We haven't been shooting well of late
    1. Our shooting percentage against top 100 teams this year ranks 268th in CBB
    2. Our shooting splits against OSU last season were 39.7/22.2/58.3 and 35.1/31.8/47.4
Our biggest advantage on Saturday is the front court. We have two 5th year seniors and they have two freshman.

The biggest reason we have struggled against Oklahoma State in the Otz era is because our offense was subpar those first 2 years….AND….Oklahoma State had a nationally top 13 Defense and it was also top 3 in the Big 12 during that same span. Basically they were the best defensive team we played each year and it showed.

If you really break it down Iowa State and Oklahoma State were identical teams. If you look at the offensive and defensive metrics the last couple years. Both had mediocre offenses both had extraordinary defenses. We were just slightly more limited when it came to scoring.

Their length and athleticism defensively was more a problem for us then we were for them. They were able to exploit our limitations quite well.

This year Oklahoma State is nowhere near the defensive team they have been and we have improved dramatically on offense while improving on defense. I know it’s popular to nitpick the offense but it has improved. That’s what makes the win against Houston that much more impressive, they were the best defensive team we have faced in the Otz era and we prevailed. In my opinion, we lose that Houston game by double digits the last couple years.

I think we win comfortably against Oklahoma State on Saturday if we show up. This game is not going to go the same way it has the last couple years in my opinion.

They've been a more athletic version of us, I'm really glad Avery Anderson isn't there but it sucks we still get him twice this year now that he's at TCU. He's killed us.

We always seem to struggle with their length. It seems like they always have an entire team of guys that look like Watson and Bielew.

On the perimeter at that.

They've been a horrible matchup for ISU's players.

Shouldn't be the case Saturday but ISU will need to play well still.

Historically they've been a thorn. ISU didn't win there for like 20 years or more before the Kane team did it and both wins over OSU that year took 3 OTs and a prayer from Naz st Hilton.

While our offense didn't break 60 points on Tuesday, remember that Houston is a lockdown defensive team. If TJ's teams from the past two seasons had just played Houston, they would've scored 40 points. Offense is better and Okie State's defense is nowhere near as good as Houston. At home, with a more offensively talented team, I'm expecting 70'ish points for us.

The past two years our style of play and offensive talent level has been similar to OSU. This makes for very physical, defensive minded games that will likely be very close throughout. We are more talented offensively this year and have more ball handlers, I expect a much better Iowa State game.

Was anticipating this being somewhat of a transition year for TCU and then they found a way to bring many guys back for 5th, 6th, and in Chuck O'Bannon's case a 7th year! I don't have KenPom premium but would imagine they are one of the oldest teams in college basketball. Their rotation consists of 8 seniors (many using extra years), a junior, and a sophomore in KU transfer Ernest Udeh Jr.

What is funny about that 36 point game is 8 days later we went out and scored 41 against Tech down in KC. Sandwiched between those 2 games was going toe to toe with #3 Baylor.

Less than a week after KC we rode 113 combined points into the Sweet 16.

That team was a ****** roller coaster man.

Those were extremes but it's also how college basketball works.

The amazing high flying Hoiball super team with Kane was down like 14-2 at about the 10 minute mark of the first half in the Big 12 tourney title game.
