Where to go from here....

I am not a Hawk fan, so curiosity has me asking what Hawkeye fans think the basketball program needs to do to get back on track. I have my own opinions as I'm sure every ISU fan does so I would like to hear from others.

Do you give Lick more time? They haven't improved at all since he has been there. Is his style of play just "out of wack" and no fun/not successful?

Is it the player losses that are plaguing them?

Are the players getting down and not buying in?

When do you draw the line and go coach shopping?

How much longer will it be before everyone gets fed up with losing and asks for his head?

I am used to having "down" years in Ames, but if this were happening here I know I would be concerned/frustrated/suicidal....:jimlad:

Lick probably has to go. Obviously the transfers have killed the program, but that combined with his style of play has killed attendance.

Thing is, he's been recruiting decent players... but that's the thing. The guys he's recruiting are the guys that need a few years to develop talent-wise, and I'm afraid he won't have the time to do that.

I'm not really patient enough to wait until the current Freshman are Juniors to start seeing semi-successful seasons. And I'm afraid the fans won't be either. With that being the case, recruiting is going to be even more difficult, and it's just not going to be good news in general for a while.

The new practice facility and the renovations will help recruiting - eventually. But the high profile players will want to play on a team that has a high profile offense, and that's not Lick's style.

I like the guy, but I've come to the sad realization that he just might not be fit for a big time coaching job. His play works at teams like Butler, but that's about it.

I would think not winning has done more to kill attendance than anything else. Firing Lickliter after this season would set the program back another 3 years. He's going through the same type of thing that McDermott went through his first few years in Ames.

I don't really know what your level of expectation was this year; every Hawk fan in the country knew that this year's basketball team was going to struggle way back in April. In essence, Lickliter is starting over.

I hate to break this to you but it's going to be at least 3 years of rebuilding with Lick so I'm not sure how changing coaches would change that.

I really don't care either way. If they fire him, I certainly would understand. If they want to give him another year of two I can understand that too.

By all accounts it seems Lick is a good guy and means well. You don't hear near the stuff about him that you used to hear about Alford.

Having said that, I'm not sure he is a good fit for Iowa. I don't think most Hawkeye fans are as patient as Iowa State fans and I can see them not wanting to deal with it.

This is the same college that ran off Tom Davis, who wasn't all that bad.

Why would it set the program back 3 years? That is simply not true. It is possible to turn a bball program around in a single year with the right guy. It happens all the time. With Lickliter, Iowa's program has gone backwards now for the third straight year.

Biggest problem with this team from what I've seen is they play fairly lazy, sloppy, uninspired basketball. Both teams they've played have beaten them to the punch consistently on both ends of the court. Maybe it's a style thing, but I don't pin it all on that. You need to make sharp passes and D up. They don't. Add to that the poor shooting from the outside and the free throw line and it's a perfect storm of crappy basketball. Hopefully they can right the ship. Time will tell.
