When did you know that the wheels were going to come off this basketball season? For me it was watching the Northwestern game over Thanksgiving weekend. I saw the inconsistent guard play we came accustomed to......and a Northwestern team that was more physical than us.

If we want to go into the bag of excuses and try and explain this season away......the only one that I've decided really mattered was Scotty C and his mono. If he's healthy all year we might have made it to 7 - 9.

UNI

I though Northwestern was a fluke but when they couldn't finish off UNI I had a feeling that it was going to be another frustrating year.

Loss to UNI. The writing was on the wall. It wasn't so much that we lost to UNI, but it was how we lost. Little did we know that we'd go on to lose about 6 more games in exact fashion later in the year.

The Cal game sticks out. I really didn't like how we started that 2nd half, and that game seemed to set the tone of how we played the rest of the season...

UNI game for me. We were leading late and gave it up, and a very good team took advantage of our miscues.

UNI game. Completely dominated physically by UNI with a full ISU team (i think). I knew the soft play, unless changed, would inevitably lead to this. Interestingly, after the 'Pollard fan response letter' and the 'Mac's staying press conference', I'm not longer calling for Mac's head, but he's on a three game probation with me, if we don't dominate a team by game three, you can flush next year's season. Here's to hoping I'm dead wrong...

I think we may struggle early next season finding the combination of players that work well together. I don't think we will lose to bad teams but I don't see huge blowouts. This team will be in a much different world. A world where they are relying on themselves, not Craig.

Whatever wheels came off...I believe were put back on at the end of the year. Team really played hard and improved on FT shooting, rebounding, overall toughness. Didn't translate to W's, but I saw determination and effort that was lost for a few games.

Nothing personal... but I think this is a bad question.

Unless you believe that events are 'predetermined' then nobody could have 'known'.

Better questions would have been, "When did you begin to think that the Cyclones were going to perform worse than you had originally thought."

Or

"When did you consider this season to be a disappointment"

Because those who "knew" the wheels were coming off... also must have 'knew' that we'd lose to 5th ranked KState. You never know what will happen.

That's just my opinion because I don't believe in a pre-destined outcome.

Northwestern. Knew the NCAA was a pipe dream after that game.

There were a few rough games, but the team never really got blew out. There were a few flats along the way and in a few games they needed to air up the tires. If this team his 12 more shots this year it could have been an all different season. That being said I started to question the team when they played Duke.

This was the start of it for me too. Watching Schurna carve us up effortlessly was my first hunch. The UNI game immediately following generated strong suspicion. And the Cal game confirmed it once and for all.
