What would ISU do with a decent kicker?

We had really good kickers when I was in school. Jeff Shudak and Ty Stewart. In fact, it was the one thing we were good at

Check the records for yourself.

Same thing we'd do with an average kicker or a bad kicker.

The key to good kicking is finding a family that has 3-4 boys that specialize in kicking....get the first...then for about 12 years you have no kicking worries.

See, I'm not sure I agree, I think we've seen a lot of coaching decisions in the last 12 years driven by shaky confidence in a kicker, let alone one who can kick touchbacks.

Could you be more aggressive on kicks? do you strategize field/time management?

Well, kicking was pretty good the second half of last year as Netten got his act together after a shaky start to the season and hit his last 8 in a row. Kicking was not the issue last year.

............was 14-of-19 on field goal attempts (73.7 pct.) and 35-of-36 on PATs …made his final eight field goal attempts, including four from 40+ yards, tying for the third-longest streak in school history … his 14 made field goals ties for seventh on ISU’s season list … led the team in scoring with 77 points … made all three field goal attempts vs. Oklahoma, all from 40+ yards, including a career-long 51-yarder … drilled both attempts vs. West Virginia, including a 49-yarder to end the half … enters senior season on top of ISU’s career field goal percentage list at 74.5 pct. (38-51) … ranks second in career PATs (103), second in career kicking points (217) and sixth in career field goals (38) in the ISU record book.

If Rhoads was still here I would agree with the post "ruin his confidence". I don't think Rhoads had a clue as to how to handle either QB's or kickers and seemed his strength was ******* with their confidence.

A stud kicker can be worth 1-2 more wins per year. Bad kicking cost us two Big 12 north titles. It amazed me how coaches were content with walk-on kickers for years when they continued to cost us games. A great kicker can have just as big an impact on winning as almost any position other than QB.

We would have gone 4-8 last year, scored 10 more points total on the season, averaged 25.83 points per game which would have been good for 9th highest scoring offense out of 10 Big 12 teams.

So in other words, we still would suck.

Kicking game can't fix all the holes, must score more 6+1's to not lose games
