I was watching the West Des Moines Valley game last night and found myself watching Barrent & Boffeli most of the game. After watching Barrent, the guy is huge, but his feet did not move the entire game. He would get one good initial punch and then he would not drive his feet and half the time was on the ground by the end of the play. I do understand that he prolly has alot of potential. Boffeli on the other hand was blockin like a mad man. He would lock onto the guy and drive the dude prolly ten yards. You put 50 pounds on Boffeli and he is going to be a great OL. I know he is being recruited as a TE but I think when he leaves ISU he will be an OL. Zach Cutkomp is also very good, is he getting looks or offers from anywhere? I imagine he would be a preferred walkon for ISU and Iowa. Thoughts on the game?

Agree with comments on Barrent and Bofeeli... I also thought the Right tackle was a beast. Not as big as barrent but better technique and drive... Anyone know the story on him?

His name is ryan wood... goes about 6'3" 260lb i believe. Not sure what school are looking at him, but i'd defintely say he has better technique, just not the same size as Barrent.

actually against waukee barrent started at left tackle, but the waukee DE's are small and quick and he was getting beat to the edge all night in pass protection so Barrent actually switched with wood and went to right tackle. Wood handled the pressure much better.

Barrent is huge, but doesnt deserve his 4 star rating in my book

wood and cutkomp are both looking hard at uni...i go to valley and know them both well

whos to say they dont get offered down the road is some things dont fall our way .... ive always thought cutkomp would make a great slot receiver and as said before i agree that wood "looks" better than barrent, prob just his size factor then again we did get knapp who alot said was undersized as well ..... guess only time will tell ...

I saw a kid in the stands wearing a t-shirt that said "R Wood is Huge!" :biglaugh:

Barrent tripped over his own feet time after time. Seems to me he was either pancaking people, our not doing much of anything.

after watching valley a couple times this yr i like the technique of wood alot too.. to bad ISU couldnt get a preferred walkon with this kid... he may the most polished on their line..

I think every ISU And Iowa fan noticed that Wood did indeed look better. Barrent has a great frame and will no doubt get coached up. But I really liked Wood and Cutkomp, their stock must be rising now. That "R WOOD is HUGE" shirt was pretty funny too!

Do you know if Ryan Wood's dad name is Rick ? If it is I use to work with him, and I know for a fact they are big Cyclone fan's and that he has attended some football camps at Iowa State.

Any chance that Wood can play guard at the next level? 6'3 is a nice size for a guard, and the pounds will come with time. I like the sounds of polished technique out of high school.

Be careful, this summer a high school player came on this board and said he didn't think Barrent played as well as he is ranked. Many people on this board pooh-poohed the poster and told him that he didn't know as much as college coaches. I think we owe the kid an apology because your report sounds like the same conclusion after Barrent's senior season.

mmhmm.... i just said what i saw no hard feelings tho i think both boefelli (sp?) and wood will be monsters at the next level while barrent may be a average to above average player based on potential

I remember you talking about Barrent this summer, and I have to say that after watching the Valley game friday, you were right on. Huge frame, and lots of potential, but his game right now isn't that great.
