While no one is happy or accepting of last night's loss, let us not forget what happened in the offseason. Mac, his entire staff, the team, and every Cyclone fan was counting on Wesley Johnson to be the centerpiece of this team. The recruiting was considering WJ returns, the gameplan was tweaked considering WJ returns, the mindset of each play was WJ returns. And then he left us high and dry. What Mac planned for was:

1. DG
2. Lucca
3. Wesley Johnson
4. CB
5. Alex Thompson and committe

While we have had months to overcome, you take a battle tested, big 12 player out of the mix and go to war with what we have. Hence, the results will be up and down because we are counting on players who are not ready. One man has made a difference!

Now it is time for the rest of the teams/coaches to suck it up and find a way to overcome!

I concur. Wesley really let this team down. We might have only one loss with him. Instead, we have to play more inexperienced freshmen.

That being said, if McDermott doesn't get us to the NIT next year, he should absolutely be fired.

Maybe instead of saying we got chizzed, the truth is Chizik Wesley Johnson'd us. Well, that doesn't roll off the tongue as nicely. So, even though WJ left us first, I guess we can say WJ chizzed us.

The problem is he planned on Alex Thompson starting.

Things happen. Another player transfered. It's been over for awhile and Mac had a lot of time (in the context) to replace Wes in some aspect or change his game plan to fit the team with out him.

We need to focus on getting better with the players we have here or next year we might be saying that "While no one is happy or accepting of last night's loss, let us not forget what happened in the offseason. Craig left and he was going to be the center piece of our team"

Iowa is doing ok without their best player from last year.

They lost their best player to UT the year before that.

They're not great, but they're better than us and they play w/a LOT of heart.

We're more talented than them, but they whooped us good...without their best player from last year or their leading scorer from this year.

That wouldnt be his starting lineup because Mac cant live without Peterson in it. Also for the majority of the game he would have no center in and would let Wesley cast 3's like the rest of these yahoos and we would go into half with NO!!!!! offensive rebounds against a team with a 6-7 post player.

The Drake game was another great example of a team not even trying to rebound.

Rebounding is mostly desire and some technique. Mac apparently hasn't taught this team either.

No Wes this year is a good point. As for the offensive rebounds we don't try to get them. Mac made a decision to not allow points in transition. He gives up crashing the offensive boards to do that.

LE sent three guys back on every offensive shot and he didn't use that as an excuse for no offensive rebounds. Your bigs need to act like bigs, find a man knock him on his *** and go get the ball.

how about a lineup like this...

1. DG
2. Lucca
3. Wesley Johnson
4. CB
5. Taggart ( I believe this would be his senior season)

even though I always hated Taggarts attitude, the guys having a pretty good year at Memphis and would have definitely helped take some of the rebounding/low post offense/low post defense pressure off CB.

I'm not saying Mac has a good plan. I was just explaining what the plan is. I think even leaving CB to rebound is better than not trying at all. Even Petey could stay, he is probably the best rebounder on the team; he could get back if he doesn't get the board.

I'm sure no one notices but it does work; we don't give up any fast break points.

Great point. We are also young, remember... Winning and excuses must be inversely proportional huh.

Touche.

Did Johnny, Tim or LE have anyone of Taggart or WJ's caliber leave the program?

"Voluntarily" that is.

Unless Barnes commits to McDermott, then he get a free pass. But I agree. No Post Season next year, SEE YA.
