Well you guys were right the Big 10......

Blows..............and the Big 12 looks solid. Now being fair I already thought Minne and Wiscy stunk and NW played about how I thought, as I wasn't high on Mizzou. MSU also played waaayyy better than I thought they would, but PSU really disappointed me.

USC on the Big stage it seems is just nearly impossible to beat and PSU just wasn't good enough to even make it respectable.

Now what I have gleaned from watching football all year is that QB play and strong defense (being able to pressure strong QB’s and tackle in space) is paramount to win in college ball anymore. With strong QB play coming in even above strong D.

The good news is ISU returns a ton of young players and what I think is a pretty darn good QB. Plus they have what appears to be some very exciting young skill guys on the edges and in the D-backfield. And even better…………..Iowa returns a ton of young talent and a “decentâ€￾ QB who might get better as a Jr and a very strong D that got quite a bit of experience from the 2nd team D-linemen with one even getting Big 10 POW and a DE in Binns who may be the best pass rusher it seemed.

It will be an exciting competitive game next year in Ames no matter whether we both have new coaches or not....

Yeah, and I don't think losing Greene is that big of a hit... Hampton looks like he'll fill in just fine. Heck, maybe it's not the backs but the OL play that needs credit.

As for ISU- some rush ends and immovable DT's should have our athletic young secondary performing just fine. Our WRs look promising- lots of hype around the incoming Reynolds. Tiller vs. Arnaud might be an interesting story this summer. The most interesting Q for me is if/ how Bo Williams fits in w/ the rest of our running back group.

Who are you talking "we"? You are a Hawk fan who went to ISU. There is no "we" for you, unless you are talking about going to the bathroom.

I do not believe he meant it as a posessive "we."

I agree. And I'd love to see some objective commentary/ debate on his objective post... rather than this turn into another "hawks r dumb, Big 10 stinks, go back to your hawk board" thread. Those are getting really old already.

I've actually been a little disappointed in the Big XII's play so far. I thought Okie St would absolutely roll over whoever they played. I knew that they were dependant on Bryant a little too much and I was right there. Without him, they aren't nearly as good. Mizzou had been playing poorly ever since they lost to Okie St, and NW is a decent team, so that game being close shouldn't be a huge surprise I guess. I thought Nebraska would beat Clemson by more and KU would beat Minny by more. Who knows what to make of TT and UT in their games. Depends on if they are motivated to be playing in those two bowls. Either could blow out their opponent or lose a close one. I still think that UF will beat OU, possibly by 2 TDs.

As for PSU/USC, I figured that one wouldn't be close. PSU isn't that much better than tOSU and USC destroyed them. There's about three teams in the country that could possibly hang with USC...FL, OU and UT.

1st off does anyone know how to edit the header as it drives me nuts?

As for Greene leaving he was a stud and fun to watch. And it would be foolish to suggest he wont be missed, but I am inclined to agree with the gentleman who mentioned that the O-line may be the true difference maker. Hampton as far as I'm concerned hit the hole even faster than Greene and showed similar toughness. The difference between the two would seem to be the instinctual way in which Greene "found" the hole and followed his blockers and the amazzzzing balance he had.

I also agree ISU has to find some D-tackles or those 2ndary guys will be in for it. As for Iowa just like it would be presumptuous to suggest Greene won't be missed the same can be said for King & Kroul. Like alot of Iowa players who the fans take for granted Kroul was the consummate teammate and compliment to King. He accounted for space inside, held his position and rarely got beat or moved. He might even get some NFL love.

King on the other hand will be missed more for his demonstrative, Banzai type leadership ability as that is what was missing from Iowa in recent years not talent. If I'm an ISU fan worried about playing Iowa next year, I’m hoping Iowa gets fat and sassy again, starts having more trouble makers or lacks motivation. Seriously and I'm not being a homer when I say I don't ever remember a time where Iowa played so many guys during crunch time on Defense. Literally we played 8, D-linemen during "important" parts of games. (Iowa fans came unglued about King being on the sideline during that goal line stand vs ISU for a few plays) which is ironic if you knew Iowa fans and their incessant complaining about how the staff manages personnel. They also played 7 Lbers the 7th of which is the one who stripped your TE in the end zone and 9 DB's so if the motivation is there they'll be stout.

ISU on the other hand needs to decide if they are goingto go spread and if they do they need to embrace ALL of Arnuads attributes and if not they need to get serious about running the ball. In my mind a Pro-set theory with regular shot-gun action, mixed in with Tailback/fullback will keep D's honest and help burn clock until those D-tackles can be found.

I actually agree the Big 12 hasn't been exactly dominate though I thought they were better just not "NEW ENGLAND" Patriots better so I'm not too surprised. The PAC 10, though that surprises me as I honestly thought they were pretty poor.

As for the Cardinals vs Cubs, it really is quite comical to see a Cubs fan talk smack to a Red Bird! However there is an interesting side note on that. How many realize how closely that lifetime series mirrors the recent Iowa/ISU rivalry?!?!

If memory serves the Cardinals are pretty solidly the best overall franchise in b-ball history yet they have an all-time losing record against the Cubs. (at least I’m pretty sure)

Now although the Hawks aren't "like" the Cardinals in success parameters they have certainly been more successful than ISU, yet struggle to win vs them. I am very concerned about our game next year in Ames.

Carry on..............

There is a such thing as hitting it too fast and not letting things develop however (see Michael Bennett: Minnesota Vikings)

The TE that you are talking about was basically playing in his first game at ISU. He got a lot better during the season and I'd actually take him over Reisner. As for DTs, ISU did have their starting DT out for the entire year. Getting Bailey Johnson back will be a huge help.

I can't believe I'm saying this... but I've always been impressed with Iowa's player development. I need ISU to figure this out. They can take a seemingly benign recruiting class, and turn them into relative winners in two years. Someone graduates/ gets drafted- some no-name steps in and does a fine job.
