I just managed to delete a fairly important file from our server at work. It's a spreadsheet that tracked all the jobs we worked on for the year. And now it's gone. Only hope of getting it back is that our support person (who's out today) has a backup saved somewhere.

Anyone want to empathize? What's the dumbest thing you've done at work?

any possibility of doing an undelete on it? if you just deleted it it might still be accessible on the hard drive?

I accidently deleted my entire thesis the week before I was to turn it over to my professor and my most recent backup was almost a month old. Luckily I was able to recover it with shadow explorer and only lost that day's work.

Lets just say for a couple hours "sick feeling" doesn't even describe how I felt.

I agree, I would explore all options!!

One time (at home, not at work) I deleted a partition containing all of our photos, many which had not been backed up yet. Luckily it's not that difficult to recover a partition...I didn't tell my wife until after I fixed it :wideeyed:

Quick go unplug the servers before they get done deleting the file!!!:jimlad:

Was working on a high level project for my previous employer. It was a mail merge and the data source was a spreadsheet that had a couple of empty columns. I sorted the spreadsheet but the empty colums caused the information to get messed up and the mailings went out wrong. Ooops!

Sent an email to the wrong person. Tell me someone else has done that.

Haha, I was once the intended recipient for an email that accidentally got sent to the owner of the company. A co-worker forwarded me an email I got left off of and jokingly added "Nobody loves you" in the email. The owner took it the right way fortunately and no one got canned. Still pretty funny though.

One of my favorite situations like this ever was when I worked a Wells Fargo in a total entry level job and one of my buddies got an email from an executive that only said "You are the last of the mohicans!" Turns out there is another executive with the same last name as him. They exchanged emails and we had a good laugh about it.

Time to sign up for a dropbox.com account. Free storage up to 2 GB, accessible from any compueter with an internet connection. Your files are backed up to their server in real time.

I did that same thing this morning. No worries. I called IT and they retrieved it for me. Apparently they brought the file back to what it was an hour before I deleted it.

Last night, at Willow Creek, I saw a high school aged kid that worked there t-bone a biker with a golf cart. He probably wont last two long at that job.

I mentor at my first job out of college was fired for having a hard drive full of porn at work.

Luckily I didn't listen to him much.
