WBB Coach Bill Fennelly Received Contract Extension

Congratulations Coach Fen!

With Boeheim at 76, Coach K at 74 and Vanderveer at 67, Bill (just turned 64 last week) could find himself at the top of this list in the not too distant future.

For the record, Izzo is 66 and Stringer is 73 so Bill is the youngest of the entire list by over 2 1/2 years.

He's likely coaching another 10 years if he stays healthy. Interesting, he's the only person on that list that is not in the basketball Hall of Fame. All of the others, except Stringer, do have national championships and scores of league championships though and Stringer has made multiple Final Fours. Also weird, to me, that only going with P5 you drop Geno Auriemma and his 36 years at the UConn basketball powerhouse

True, but to be fair every one of those programs experienced success* prior to the coach while ISU was beyond dismal before Fennelly.

*Syracuse - Final Four only two years before Boeheim, 6 consecutive 19+ win seasons
Duke - NCAA runner up, second round, elite 8 the three years before Coach K
Stanford - 3 AIWA tourneys and 1 NCAA tourney in the 8 years before Tara. Probably the closest to taking on a bad program. Tara built a program from next to nothing.
MSU - Jud Heathcoate - 5 NCAAs in his last 6 years including 1 S16 and 3 round of 32.
Rutgers - had been to the final four 6 years before Stringer and the elite eight the year before.
ISU - Team had 1 Big 8 conf tourney win total before Fennelly. Previous coach was 18-63.

Since you brought up Geno, UConn had a grand total of 1 winning season before he was hired. Truly the best program building in the history of college basketball.

His comments on the Cyclone Virtual Tailgate Tour about still having to play Kim Mulkey were pretty funny.
