In a few days , I will be getting a 1963 Studebaker GT Hawk. It is a 289 CI with 240 hp. Studebaker also made the same car , same engine with a supercharger, which added 50 hp. I see there are super chargers available and I'm told it is possible to add one. Has anyone done this or had this done? I am thinking that it is very complicated regarding the tuning, ignition, install, fit up, etc. and then there is the $2500 expense. Obviously, we all want the coolest, fastest car possible, but the dealer is telling me it is still a good car as is. For that matter, he is trying to talk me into a 1957 Hawk with a 350 Chevy, but then you lose authenticity. Any thoughts or feedback? I am not an automotive mechanic. I know every one hates the model name.

Those cars didn't weigh a lot. 240hp was pretty salty for one.

As for the authenticity argument, do what feels good. There are some tremendous Studebaker loyalists, and like most enthusiasts some prefer original and some custom. I'd say it depends on the value of the car. The higher the dollar amount, the more inclined I'd be to keep it original. But those Hawks are unique cars and a go fast street rod would be pretty cool.

Personally, I prefer the fins on the '57.

Screw the supercharger. It's a 55 year old car, it does not have to be the fastest version of that model/year. 1963 Studebaker GT Hawks are pretty cool looking.

You need to add a 1963 Avanti more than you need a supercharger. ;)

With your situation and experience I would leave it alone. There will be plenty of things to do to maintain it. Get used to it and get to Know it before you jump into the deep end and invite a world of headaches. I've been a bodyman for over 40 years and working on rods for nearly 50. Save the money
