From Fox Sports:

Sources: Packers say Vikings tampered with Favre
by Jay Glazer

Updated: July 16, 2008, 6:14 PM EST

As the days roll by, the Brett Favre saga seems to get stranger and stranger. Now the soap opera has shifted to a new level.
In the latest twist, the Packers have filed tampering charges with the league office against the Minnesota Vikings for alleged communication with Favre, still technically a member of Green Bay, FOXSports.com has learned. The league, according to a source, is currently in information-gathering mode, speaking to members of both teams.
The Vikings were informed late last week that the allegation is that Favre has had inappropriate dialogue with Minnesota offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell, a close Favre friend and former assistant coach with the Packers. Favre has sought his release from Green Bay and several rumors have swirled that Minnesota is his targeted landing place, largely due to his relationship with Bevell.
League sources say the Vikings vehemently denied any wrongdoing and are awaiting the league's next step in the process. The Packers, meanwhile, have supplied the league with their version of wrongdoing.
Should the league find the Vikings guilty of tampering, they could lose draft picks and/or face fines.
The entire affair escalated to an ugly level this week when Favre conducted an interview with FOX News' Greta Van Susteren in which the living legend took the Packers to task for refusing to release him. In fact, a leaked version of the transcript had Favre blasting GM Ted Thompson, but in another odd twist, that portion of the interview has not been shown on the air.
The Packers have refused to grant the league's all-time leading passer's request for a release due in part to their fear that he would sign with the Vikings. Despite the wave of speculation, Vikings head coach Brad Childress insists that Tarvaris Jackson is his guy.
The entire affair is unfortunate, as Favre is more synonymous with Green Bay than any other player is with a city. At the same time, however, fans are now forced to make judgments for or against their hometown hero/team.
Calls by FOXSports.com to head coaches of both teams have not yet been returned.

The Packers are really screwing this up. This is like a Donald Trump divorce.

Isn't there some sort of code that says you can't be a Twins fans and a Packer fan also? :)

Nah. I rewrite the book.

My dad and 5 of his brothers grew up in Wisconsin... they are only football fans. It was gunpoint from birth for the Pack. Thank god I wasn't brought up to cheer for a football team that wears purple.

Needless to say, I grew up in MN and was left to choose my other teams. And who doesn't like the small ball that the Twinkies play?

i dont belive it either. even if the vikes tried to sign him, theres no way he would play there. farve is a god in green bay and if he became a vike, he would become the most hated man in green bay over night. viking and green bay fan are no different than ISU and hawk fans, they both cant stand each other

Except that the Vikings love to pickup ex Packers (Sharper and Longwell to name a couple). A welcome change to some players that are sick of the outdoors. And they call themselves football players.

I found it ironic that when I went to go watch the video on fox sports.com, they played that T-Mobile ad where they show Favre in his retirement speech saying "It's time for me to say hello"

"I've always been a Packer, always will be a Packer," ... "Will I play somewhere else? Remains to be seen"

Umm..what did you just say, Mr Favre?

Not really hard to understand. He is a Packer. He will be inducted into the Hall of Fame and remembered as a Packer. Does that mean he won't play somewhere else? Not necessarily

Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith, Michael Jordan, etc, etc

NBA referees don't bet on/alter game outcomes.
NFL coaches don't tape opposing team's signals
Baseball coaches don't bet on games
NCAA FB replay officials don't completely blow obvious calls
College coaches/representatitives don't tamper with other team's players
Etc etc etc

I think a phrase was coined once - "the suspension of disbelief". I wish I had the faith to not believe this stuff happens, but simply can't disbelieve anything anymore. I'll wait for the "truth" to come out. In the meantime, color me suspicious and cynical.

I hope this circus goes on for as long as possible. I think it's doing some damage to the team from the top down. I'm not sure of any outcome could be good for the pack.

All good things for the Vikes (as long as they aren't found guilty of tampering!). Go Bret Go! Bring down your proud franchise!

As a Packer fan... I think it's safe to say that both parties are screwing this up.

This is it. It is getting to a completely ridiculous stage now. It is almost leaning more towards Brett now screwing up even more.

He keeps saying how the pack won't release him blah blah blah. Even if they wanted to they couldn't since he hasn't asked permission to be reinstated from the league.

He won't ask permission since he won't report to training camp. If he doesn't report to training camp he will get fined.

It is just getting crazy now, both sides look like complete schmucks.

Packers are just trying to shove some of the bad spotlight onto the Vikings. Childress has repeatedly said TJ (like it or not) is their quaterback.
