Wanted to shake out the notebook from our media access today. Here are a few notes in no particular order:
  • Five different players got reps at kickoff return. They were Darius Reynaud, Percy Harvin, Aundrae Allison, Glenn Holt and Jaymar Johnson.
  • Cornerback Benny Sapp had an active day. He intercepted a Tarvaris Jackson pass in 7-on-7 drills and he nearly picked off a Sage Rosenfels pass in team period.
  • Rookie free agent Andy Kemp (6-5, 313 pounds) from Wisconsin got reps at right guard with the first-team offense.
  • Drew Radovich worked with the first team at left tackle.
  • Cornerback Derrick Roberson intercepted John David Booty and returned it about 20 yards for a touchdown in the team period.
  • Rookie free agent running back Ian Johnson had a few nice runs between the tackles. I talked to Johnson before the rookie minicamp and he seemed determined to make the team or the practice squad.
  • Sidney Rice made two difficult catches today. He beat Marcus Walker, who had very good coverage, on a deep post and then made a catch while falling down along the sideline. Rice’s right knee certainly didn’t appear to be an issue.
  • Starting safeties Madieu Williams and Tyrell Johnson are taking part, which is a good opportunity for them to start developing chemistry.
  • Linebacker Heath Farwell and defensive end Jayme Mitchell wore knee braces but they are healthy and taking part fully in the workouts. Farwell and Mitchell are expected to be key backups.
  • Childress said 58 or 59 players are taking part in OTAs.
  • Am I the only one who thinks that Minnesota will be really solid at safety this year? After returning from injury, Madieu Williams showed that he has a ton of talent, and I think Tyrell Johnson has the capability to be a game changer with his combination of size and speed.
