NFL: Vikings and Ramsey County Stadium Press Conference

The Vikings and Ramsey County (Arden Hills) will hold a press conference this afternoon at 3 p.m. Some Vikings beat writers are speculating a deal may have been reached for a new stadium. You can watch the press conference live on vikings.com.

Sounds like the governor may put the kibosh on it though. Hope they don't blow this just because of politics. IMO, a suburban stadium would be a lot better than one downtown........at least for the fans.

Once upon a time - before the teflon sky - the Vikings had some great tailgating at the old Met Stadium. I would guess a suburban location would make that a possibility again.

If it's going to be on the site of the old Army ammo plant, there looks to be a LOT of open space out there.

Exactly.

I'd take the suburban option if it means more opportunity for tailgating. I'd prefer downtown if they were able to clear some decent tailgate space there (highly unlikely).

Either way, this is great thing for Viking fans!

Someone is going to cave eventually. If Dayton is known as the one who held up the stadium deal and effectively led to them leaving for LA he won't be able to show his face in MN for the rest of his life.

Idk about that... People are generally against raising taxes for a new stadium.

The Twins had a vote for one in saint paul when I was in high school that was overwhelmingly voted no. Only reason why Target Field was done was because it was passed without giving the opportunity for voters to vote.

Don't you think some people would applaud Dayton for not using tax payer dollars for something like this?

They would until the reality of never having a NFL team again settled in.

applaud right up til the moment that the Vikings left town.

The people want what they can't have. They want a new stadium, but they don't want to have to pay for it. And while logic would say that this is the way things should be, it's unfortunately not the reality. The reality is that they're going to have to pony up, or they will risk losing the team. There's no win-win scenario, here.

If the San Francisco Giants can privatley fund a new stadium on real estate that is as uber expensive, why can't the Vikings do it to?

Also, why do the Vikings need a $1 billion stadium? That's excessive.

IDK, considering ~40,000 people were willing to shell out hundreds to thousands of dollars on season tickets last year, I'd say it's a bit north of a few thousand.
 
Also to compare. Qwest field was $504 million in Seattle, Lincoln Financial Field was $600 million in Philly, Lucas Oil Stadium was about $675 million...
