To my dismay my new vehicle registration stickers came in the mail. Hawkeye gold background with black numbers. Yuck!

Fortunately, this vehicle is red and I can pass it off gold Cyclone bling.

My next vehicle, however, is black with blackout plates. What is a Cyclone to do?

Ride dirty.

I went almost a year with expired tags. Never pulled over or even looked at funny.

But if you park in a city, the city parking officers can ticket you for expired tags. A few years ago I was just too lazy to put my sticker on, but had my new registration in my car (in case I got pulled over). I parked at a parking meter every day for work at that time. Once the month grace period was up after my birthday, the meter person gave me a $35 ticket.

35 dollar ticket sounds like a civil fine.

Don't put it over your current sticker. Remove the old and put the new one in the far corner and get a ISU plate frame to cover most of it if the one you have wont work. You can get some wide frames. To my dismay, my wife's sticker is nearly hidden by her ISU frame. Not because she is trying to hide it, it is just the way it worked out. Never been pulled over and a month ago drove through five states and not an issue driving through them.

I have blackout plates. I dont really like the gold ISU plates. I would probably get them, or at least consider them, if it was reversed like the Simpson plate, Cardinal with gold letters.

In the state of Iowa, ANYTHING covering a plate is probable cause for a traffic stop.
