Vance & Hummel Appreciation Thread

I think with Mike Rose playing at another damn level, it's really easy to overlook how good both of these guys have been this year. A couple of Iowa boys who are almost always in the right spot, making the important "routine" plays on a regular basis. There aren't a lot of highlight reel type plays here, but they've been a big part of the defense's success.

Hummel IMO is the most improved player on the team. Both have been really good this year. It seems like we have good depth up front on defense and in the secondary but I feel like these two and Rose never leave the field.

Said it in another thread but Vance staying around and keeping things moving up front on that last drive contributed to Ehlinger having to hesitate just a little and made the Oline have to make some choices.

The best this team has done has been due to complimentary football.

Vance has been playing assignment much better this year. Hummel still has some work to do in that area.

Great idea for a thread. Both of these guys have had terrific seasons and may be overshadowed a bit by Mike Rose. Vance had big tackle numbers vs. Texas. 2 great Cyclones.

Vance made 2 really huge TFL plays at Texas at time where the defense was soft and bending like crazy in the first half.

I was impressed by Vance’s closing speed against Tejas. He looked fast.

Yup. That was kind of the moment where I thought to myself "Vance is having a hell of a year, but we aren't really talking about it".

Jake Hummel's deflected pass breakup on the final texas drive maybe saved the game for the Cyclones, that was a huge play that forced them into 3rd down and long-ish.

Vance is a beast in the run game and had a really nice stuff near the goal line early in the game. Both have been really really good this year.
