What are your thoughts? I think we need another big. I know that Amare pulled his name out of contention last week but why no Duncan or KG?

I would substitute them for Kidd/Prince

I think it's a mistake not to have Tyson Chandler on the team.

Carmelo and Lebron will get time at the PF spot, I'm not super worried about the bigs. Carmelo was dominating at the PF spot in Japan 2 years ago.

Honestly if we don't win the gold with that crew this year it's going to be a real embarrassment to USA basketball.

There's really no reason that team shouldn't win the gold, but I do wish the had Chandler or KG. Dwight Howard is the only center on the team, and the only defensive minded big-man.

Duncan and KG both pulled out. Either would have been a lock for the team had they accepted the invitation.

I would have liked to have seen Chandler as well. However, Coach K is planning on having Lebron and Carmelo play the 4, so that leaves Boozer, Bosh, Howard to split time at the 5.

I'm kinda suprised they didn't add someone like a Korver or Kapono to take advantage of the shorter three point line. Either one of those guys could easily shoot 60% from three out there.

Unfortunately, there are a few teams out there that can go inside and cause rebounding problems. Also, if the bigs get in foul trouble, that could be a problem.

I think that's why they had Redd. But yes, a Korver or Kapono would have been helpful and I agree with that.

It's not the absolute best team they could put on the floor but it should easily win the Gold.

why D-Wade?? He's been injury prone. If I were Miami, I wouldn't want him playing....I'd want him getting ready for the next NBA season.

Last summer they had two shooters, Redd and Mike Miller. They found that they really only needed one designated shooter type, and Redd is the best when it comes to that.

Part of the reason Wade shut down his NBA season in March was so that he would be ready for Beijing. He apparently is healthy now, which makes him a lock for the team.

Like I said they found that only one designated shooter was necessary, given there are other guys on the team who shoot the 3 as well.

That being said, if I could add another shooter to the team it would be Ray Allen, as he can do other thing besides just shoot. I am pretty sure though that he turned down the invitation.

Is that true? I'll bet that the Miami Heat managment were happy to hear that. That's like taking two months off of your job to prepare for the company picnic.

i don't think they will win the gold. no defense=no championship.

Not only that, but they likely won't play as a team on the offensive end either. If the last several years are of any indication it's going to be yet another showboat fest, and then when they run into a team such as Argentina or Lithuania that can actually come to play they'll get stomped and as the seconds tick down everyone on the bench will have this stupified look on their face that says "what the hell happened? Why did we lose a giftwrapped tournament?"

Actually the Heat probably shut him down so they could tank to attemp to get a top pick.

What does everyone think about the Olympics? Mark Cuban and Don Nelson went back and forth on this issue last week, and both brought up good points.

Are the Olympics still about national pride, and honest world competition? Or are they about corporate sponsorship, television ratings, product placement, and launching new sports celebrity careers for the front cover of the next Wheaties box.

It's hard to deny that it's about the money, but to what level is it about the money?
