Urlacher Retiring

Great player. He embodied everything that the Chicago Bears are about. Just a tough, tough, tough football player.

I'm not a Bears fan, but my brother is a huge one, and I can remember him gushing before the 2000 draft about a linebacker from New Mexico, and how awesome he thought he'd be. He couldn't quite pronounce his name, but he was really hoping Chicago would draft him.

13 years later, and every NFL fan knows how to pronounce his name. He'll be in the HOF for sure.

It took 13 years but I can pronounce it. Brian.

He definitely was a great player in Bears history. I'm not a Bears fan so just curious for those who are... Does he make the Bear's Mount Rushmore of players? Payton, Butkus, Singletary... Urlacher? Sayers? Someone else?

Ditka said he's in the same breath as Singletary and Butkus in terms of MLB, but that it's hard to compare across generations.

Wish his departure from the Bears would have gone more smoothly, but nonetheless, as a Vikings fan I'm glad to see him go. The dude was a beast.

Great player and a sure first ballot hall of famer. Fitting that he and Ray Lewis will likely be inducted in the same HOF class as they were the best at their position over the last decade plus.

Glad he is retiring as a Bear instead of playing somewhere else, but it is too bad he can't get another few years out. He's got to be hurting though.

Note to Brett Favre - THIS IS HOW IT'S DONE!... punk.

Thank you Brian for not becoming a Viking.

Market for Favre > Market for Urlacher.

I'd bet that if Favre came out of retirement today - he'd have a job before Urlacher. And that, like your post, is apples-to-oranges.
