I am a huge JP supporter- Hope he never leaves!
Lets be honest- no P5 school is hiring an AD that had to answer to over 100 NCAA violations on his watch. That combined with his rant a few weeks back (which I was cool with) that most of his colleagues think was unprofessional.
JP is not leaving unless he wants a lesser job. He is awesome at what he does but other schools will see those warts (and the football problem that we still have) and pass.
The only reason the NCAA violations would be a black eye on Pollard's record is because he actually reported the extra phone calls and text messages instead of wiping every computer and cell phone in the department of those records. That would be the preferred action at a school like Michigan.
Remember, cheating pays as Mr. Bob Bowlsy says (except when it deals with his officiating program).
Him finding those very minor violations, fully investigating them, taking action to make sure they don't happen again and self reporting to the NCAA will be viewed as a positive rather than a negative by prospective employers.
JP isn't anywhere near their radar. Bates, Manuel, and a couple other guys are the target but I bet it's Bates.
I agree, I love JP as much as the next guy, but I don't think he's on their radar. He's done some GREAT things for this school, primarily in raising funds and getting things done facility-wise, that Michigan quite honestly doesn't need with their fanbase and history.
Where JP has been lack luster is in coaching hires, which Michigan will want. Let's be honest, his biggest pull, Freddy, fell into his lap when Hoiberg called and asked for the job.

Not an attractive hire- hard sell to the institution and donors.
We see the upside -sure. Others don't care about the NCAA backstory- only that it happened.
Glad JP is is here - I like him very much but lets not pretend that other candidates are not better for Michigan. There are warts that detract.

Their AD is getting fired for basically being an overactive d-bag with a big mouth. They will look for a polar opposite in his replacement and that doesn't equal Jamie Pollard.
First he didn't just fall into his lap. Fred inquired about the opening the previous time (after Morgan) but JP initiated it when the job was open again. Second, it took some serious cajones to pull the trigger on that hire considering Fred's coaching experience. There are a hell of a lot of AD's who would have taken the safe route and found someone else; someone else who would have not worked out as well as Fred has.
By the way, both Chizik and McDermott were widely acclaimed as quality hires by sports writers around the country. Chizik was a homerun hire when it happened. There were a lot of people who didn't see what an asshat Chizik was going to turnout to be. There were a lot of people who didn't foresee that McDermott was going to struggle with coaching and keeping Big 12 talent.
All he has to do is open the door of his office and call his wife and tell her that "Michigan just contacted me to gauge my interest in The AD Position". The ladies in the office will have the rumor spread all the way to the through campus and Big12 by the end of the day. This "call" will net Pollard a 100K or so raise to keep him.
This site is full of people who think they would be a better AD/Coach than what we currently have, and it's hilarious to read. None of you would be close to what we have currently, so I suggest keeping your mouths shut. Jamie is an awesome AD and sticks up for our coaching staff. We are lucky to have an athletic director like Jamie.
I'lll refute my post as I agree with some of what you say.
But your point about Chizik and McD don't stand well. In both those moves he took what would have been considered the "sexy" pick, which never works out for smaller P5 schools. I'd give him coaching find praises when he finds diamonds in the rough that actually take program places. See schools that have historically crap backgrounds who found coaches that instantly turned them around.
