UCONN Blogger... Thoughts?

UConn is a tremendous basketball team that is very easy to like and appreciate what they do. Most teams that are so dominating are hated and bashed on because they have thugs on the team, showboaters, or their coach rubs people the wrong way. UConn doesn't have any of those that I can see.

It's always fun to cheer for the underdog, but UConn is an outstanding team who does things the right way and if the Cyclones weren't playing them I wouldn't have a reason to cheer against them (other than the underdog thing).

I guess I don't understand the point. They're really good and we should all be in awe and no booing is allowed? Isn't that the typical stance on their team?

Dynasties are often good for the game but UConn is essentially a monopoly right now.

Geno is a guy that most people despise. He gets a lot of respect for the program he built but the guy rubs just about anyone he comes across the wrong way.

I usually get rubbed the wrong when when someone beats me by 50 at anything. It's easy to hate someone who kills your team. It just is. Something tells me we will be lucky to keep it under a 20 point game.

Sure. I think the fact that he isn't really a "people" person is more of the reason he rubs people the wrong way. He certainly rubbed Pat Summit and Tennessee the wrong way which is why they no longer play a regular season game every year.

Yeah, how's that Title IX working out...

Considering the ISU Women's team played their first game in 1973 after Title IX in 1972, it has worked pretty well for the Women's team.

UConn being as good as they are is only going to help Women's basketball in the long term.

Interesting to hear other people's perspectives; I've always thought Geno was a tool and it's only becoming more pronounced. If you haven't yet, read the article on UCONN in last week's Sports Illustrated. Geno blathers that this years team isn't as good as last year's version, his guards don't know what he wants them to do, he has no depth, etc. Just shut up already! Then you get to the girls on the team. They'd have you believe they don't pay attention to the score at all because they are so focused on winning each possession, which is what makes it OK for them to run up the score. Then, they weren't happy for Tina Charles when she set some record because they were disappointed they let Notre Dame eclipse fifty points. Ridiculously arrogant...

I may be playing devil's advocate here, but that sounds like good, team oriented basketball.

You know Geno Auriema is hated when he makes you want to cheer for Pat Summit...

By the way, even though I "hate" him, you know why I don't hold Geno's success against him? Because I would love to see Bill Fennely that hated...
