Two Players Left?

What is shady about the Baylor basketball program now? Why cannot members of this board realize that a basketball program can be turned around quite quickly without breaking any NCAA rules. All it takes is a good coach, two stars, and five to six role players, all with the same GOAL and DEDICATION to something called "TEAM".

And a big, bold font.....

I sometimes cannot believe how far our program fell under Gmac. I guess he's a nice enough guy, but he was the equivalent of a nuke going off in our bball program.

My only fear is that the program has fallen so low, that no matter how good Hoiberg is, he won't be able to bring our program back from the grave.

I agree totally with your assertion on GM. He absolutely decimated our program in four years. He left it in far worse shape than he found it. He did absolutely nothing while he was here. I say thank you Creighton for relieving us of GM and good riddance.

However, I totally disagree with you about where the program can go from here. If it can be nearly totally decimated in four years...then the opposite can happen as well. Just look at what has happened at Baylor...and as bad as our situation is right now...that situation was even worse.

I do have concerns about FH's total inexperience in this coaching role...I think this would be a tough enough job for someone with experience in reclamation projects but for someone in his first HC job ever it will be even tougher. Of course, this 'ignorance' could actually be a blessing and help FH...I pray that it is. The bottom line, however, that we cannot let the GM era be an excuse for the FH era.

not even for festivus? That's pretty hard to believe as the airing of
grievances goes on and on and on and on and on and on...........(;+)

PLUS, I was really counting on Chris challenging me to a rasselin match
for the feat of strength!

"Jerk Store would have smoked that guy."

Total agreement. GM did officially leave things in worse shape then he found them. It's kind of hard to believe that was possible, but here we are.
We can definitely get better, and with FH and TJ recruiting, I think that can happen pretty quickly. If we keep players in the program and develop them, then that shortens that timeframe a good deal.

Dunno, ask Rick Barnes, he knows better than both of us. And yes, my font can go bigger.

Indiana did not make a lot of progress even in the second year after the Samson disaster. And Iowa went down hill after the brilliant Steve Alford left. So we would be better encouraged by looking at the Baylor example, but knowing it won't happen overnight.

I agree that Mac ended up not being a good choice for ISU. We definitely did not move in the right direction, but I'd go back a little farther and say that Wayne Morgan was the beginning of the downfall. Larry had his problems, but we had teams that played with toughness and heart at least. We haven't seen that since.

How was Morgan the beginning of the downfall with all 3 winning seasons, 4 post season wins and 4 top 10 wins? He had the highest winning percentage against ranked teams of any coach in ISU history. Put the blame squarely where it belongs, on Mcdermott. We should have known he wouldn't be good for ISU basketball from the time he called Homan a thug.

who hired GMAC?
Once again I'll point out...

McDermott was a hot commodity when Jamie hired him. A lot of people wanted him, even the Hawks (thought they'll never admit it now.) You can't blame Jamie for not having a crystal ball. It seemed like a good hire at the time to a lot more "experts" than just JP.

I personally know two Iowa fans that volunteer their original desire to have McDermott. No doubt he was a hot commodity at the time.

mark me down as one of the guys that never wanted GMac as a coach. Not that I didn't think he was capable, I just wanted someone with a little more flash than stealling the guy down the street from the smaller state school. At this point everyone but Creighton fans question his ability.

I don't blame JP for hiring McD and I think it was a good hire even though I didn't like it at the time. However the contract was awful.
