Looks like the Twins picked up Orlando Cabrera for Tyler Ladenorf (minors SS).

Decent pickup. If we were gonna take someone from the A's I'd rather have Adam Kennedy, but this will allow the team to put him at short, rotate Casilla/Pinto at 2nd and use Harris to spell Crede at 3rd.

Glad to see Bill Smith listen to his players

Good!

A. It's an improvement.
B. Mauer will be happy they're trying to get help.

Harris should become the everyday 2b, but I don't have much faith in Gardy to bench his boy Punto.

I'd agree with this. Punto is such a waste of space at the plate.

I'm still baffled that guy is making $4 million this year. With deals like this to him and Mike Lamb, how the club continues to be called frugal is beyond me

Remember the Twins did just sign Mark Grudzielanek also a week or two ago. He should be ready here in about a week. If he can come in and hit .270 at 2b that'd be a HUGE upgrade. Hopefully Gardy will bench Punto and Casilla and let the good guys play. Hopefully the Twins aren't done trading, and can find a way to get a relief pitcher or possibly a starter.

I like this trade. Maybe OCab isn't the best SS out there, but I think it's what we need to compete this year. Plus with the Grudzy signing, this could be a very interesting stretch run.

Where is Grudzielanek at now?

Never mind, found it here.

He's also a *********, but that's a different story. :)

He got a solid recommendation from Crede for being a good clubhouse and team guy. Basically said that problems in chitown were more the fault of Ozzie than OC.

Latest rumors are that the Twins are currently kicking the tires of the A's Michael Wuertz and Padres Heath Bell. I would not be surprised to see that they get Wuertz

Leads the league in errors for a shortstop, doesn't he? Still an improvement. His batting average will probably go up a little bit in the dome, too.

So, I've picked up on the fact that OCab played with Crede in Chicago - but were they both part of the WS Championship team?

Crede was a major player in the playoffs in 2005. Orlando Cabrera's only season with the White Sox, mercifully, was 2008.

Cabrera's 5th team in 5 years.

Okay, thanks. I don't know much about OCab, but I was hoping he was part of that championship team too. I guess I don't see how this trade will make much of a difference, but hopefully I'm wrong. I'd rather they focus on improving their pitching.
