Anyone in central Iowa use Trugreen? They've yet to show up at my house after calling 3 different times to tell me I was on the schedule the next day. Calling customer service does nothing because they are in a call center somewhere. I'd like to have a discussion with the Ankeny branch manager but have no idea who or how to contact. Thanks.
 
They have come out to my house several times to perform things I never even contacted them about and then tried billing me.

Getting them to stop coming was a nightmare.

Im sure they are fine with most customers, but I would never want to deal with them. Their customer service lady we dealt with was insane

I worked for TruGreen for one day. If you get some *** hat named Johnny, cancel.
 
If they will let you out of your service cancel and call A Plus Lawn & Landscape. Several people here use them including myself and you will not be disappointed with them

My old lawn company did the same to me. I came home from Chicago and was wtf is wrong with my lawn? They aerated and overseeded and left a $120 bill on the front door. I called and said thanks but I didn't ask for it and wasn't planning on paying for it.
 
One of their reps came out to my house to try to sell me service here in Des Moines. I let the guy look over the yard to get an idea of how big it was and come up with a service plan. I let him go through the whole sales pitch. Little did he know that I work for a local college here taking care of the athletic fields, and I tell you what, the guy had no clue what he was talking about. After his sales pitch I let the cat out of the bag about what I do and he didn't know what to say after I corrected most of the things he was trying to tell me. It was pretty fun 15 minutes.
 
I prefer to not have anyone in my family, including my dog, to get cancer, so no, I don't use them or anyone else for that matter.

Humans are such interesting beings. Not always the smartest, but a very interesting study indeed.

I'm always interested in what to do and not to do with lawns. Can you give the cliff notes version of what he was saying wrong and what's actually right?

I had a neighbor of mine lose his labrador to cancer at a young age, and his vet attributed it likely to all the chemicals on his yard. He now has a new lab, and doesn't use any lawn services either. Not worth it to him.

Similar experience. They did a grub treatment without authorization and wanted $300 from me. I told them to eff off and we fought over for it for 3 months. Finally agreed to split the bill and I told them never to call me again. That lasted about 30 days until they got a new rep at the store. That company can die in a fire for all I care.

I don't use any lawn care service but A+'s lawn manager, Mark Harpenau, lived 3 houses away from me for a few years. Good guy, good family. If I did hire it out, he seemed very trustworthy.
 
They have been out twice this year. Been using them for probably 10 years. Not going to say they are the best, but I've seen a lot of these other ones that get recommended do a poor job on my neighbors lawn. My dog died at age 16. She was on that lawn every day.

Good for her. Do it at your own risk. Some people, and animals, are built better to resist diseases IMO than others.

Just like the guy that smokes 2 packs of cigarettes a day and gets drunk every night and lives to 100 years old. Good for him, but that doesn't mean that anyone can do that and live to 100.

I'd rather not press my luck to find out I guess. But that's just me. Do what you want.

Oh, and of course everyone realizes how beneficial dandelions are for the environment too, right? It's better for us as a species to leave them alone than it is to get rid of them.
 
I don't mind dandelions, as long as they're on the yard across the street. We use Spring Green and haven't had any problems, they come out when they say and that's about the extent of it.

What makes dandelions such a bad thing in people's eyes? How was it that they ever became considered an eyesore in our eyes? Just curious.

They are a very important part of the ecosystem in reality. As I said earlier, it's just a very interesting study of human behavior why we do some of the things we do, that's all I'm saying. Why is it that we will do things that we know are not good for our species survival, all so that our lawns look "perfect". It's just interesting to me.
