So, I suppose this could go under the "Streaming movies/TV shows" thread, but I also think that True Detective as a series has enough cred by this point to warrant its own thread.

Did anyone else watch the premiere last night? I enjoyed it. Definitely pretty creepy, especially at the very end, and it reminded me in that way (supernatural elements) of Season 1.

Any thoughts?

We enjoyed it. Like any new series, it takes a bit to figure out who is who and their backstories. Thought that they maybe could have done a better job of that, but that is always hard without being artificial about it. Ended with a punch, so we're definitely excited about seeing the next one.

Watched it and I don't know what to think. Like some of the performances but wasn't impressed with the writing and the story so far.

I've enjoyed the first 2 seasons, hope this one lives up, thought the first episode was good, definitely ended with a bang.

I know why they do it, but I HATE the weekly releases for shows like this. I prefer to have the entire series released at once to binge watch or stop/start at a point that makes sense for me/us.

I tend to REALLY like shows that are able to create/set some kind of mood. On that note Night Country definitely succeeds. Most of my favorite shows the last several years...Dark, Mindhunter, the Black Spot, The Killing, etc all had settings or moods that really elevated the show/story.

This is the 4th. The first was amazing, the 2nd sucked, and the 3rd was good (we really enjoyed Dorff's character).

I actually just finally watched S3 for first time and it blew my mind. In some ways better than S1 because I found myself piecing together things about the characters days later. S2 is very good compared to most detective shows, just victim of high expectations, it’s like Alien 3 vs random action sci fi.

I might start watching this halfway through the releases. It’s hard not to think of it as Agent Starling goes to Alaska since that movie clearly inspired this series and every other good detective show or movie of the past 30 years.

Time for a thread bump here after the 3rd episode last night...

Latest episode was as close to true horror as TV gets these days. Just creepy as all get out.

This season is becoming appointment TV for me, something I look forward to watching on Sunday nights.

Man, I'm out of sync with this thread. I think it sucks compared to Season 1 but I'm 2/3rds of the way through so I guess I'll ride it out to the end.

I hate how heavily they're working the supernatural/ghost stuff in. This isn't supposed to be schlocky horror film, it's supposed to be a realistic psychological thriller.
