I am back visiting Des Moines and I was searching for my favorite summer treat- Tropical Sno

It seemed like these places used to be everywhere and now they are hard to find- do you know of any?

Two in Ames, one where happy joes used to be, the other at the corner of 30th and grand I believe.

There is one on 73rd, in the parking lot of what used to be a gas station, right out front of the Walnut Creek YMCA.

what's so great about shaved ice with flavoring? heck buy a Snoopy Snow cone machine and you can make em yourself.

There used to be one in the parking lot of Val Lanes. We used to go every Wednesday during the summer for 50 cent bowling, but haven't been in a few years. Anyone know if it's still there (Tropical Sno not Val Lanes)?

Nope drove by that one yesterday and it's not there anymore :(

Just went to the one by Walnut Creek YMCA- it was delicious

Appears that this is gone from the bowling alley. Drive past it 4 times a day. There is a fruit stand there though.

Saw one in the parking lot at 35th and EP True. NE corner, I think there is a vet clinic in part of the building.

The Tropical Sno game used to be there for the younger people getting into the shaved ice market. Things changed in the recession a few years ago, lots of cash calls and tenders from major investors. These things are just such a huge capital investment that only the big boys can play this game anymore.

An ex-gf of mine mixed vodka into a gas station slushie one time and promptly decided she did not like it because it wouldnt mix together well. Needless to say I drank it because we do not waste alcohol.

fixed. "35th ST" doesn't exist anymore

trying to remember where exactly, since that was during my time of moving twice a year and my GF (now wife) living elsewhere entirely, but one somewhere was shut down cause they were selling drugs out of it.

*Edit: I know, cool story bro, my friend's sister's girlfriend's cousin's dentist or some ****...thought someone else might recall the particulars.
