West Des Moines
I have some tree limbs on a dump trailer that I want to get rid of somewhere near our place in West Des Moines, but I understand MWA doesn't allow the public to drop off yard waste or tree limbs at their Compost Center at SE 15th & Harriet in Des Moines.

Is there anywhere else that accepts tree branches even in any of the small towns around Des Moines? I have a trailer full of them and I really don't want to spend a bunch of time cutting them all up into small enough pieces for MWA to accept them for pick-up.

We have lived in other towns where the city had a compost pile that they would allow the public to drops leaves and limbs off at, I am looking for something similar around Des Moines.

Thanks!

You could cut them up and throw them up with the trash one piece at a time. I had an uncle that did this while building a car. He worked at a car factory and he would take home one piece of the car with him each day. Eventually he had the entire car. Problem was, this took several years so the parts were of various model years. It looked goofy, but the real trouble was when he went to title it. They had to register it as a 66, 67 68 69 70 ect.

They even wrote a song about it. He was the hero of the town.

go drop them into a river after dark from the bridge. a timber, etc.

The city of Des Moines has Scrub Days once a month. You can drop of brush at the listed site. http://www.dmneighbors.org/for_your_information0.aspx

That is what I was looking for. Thank you!

I do also appreciate some of the other suggestions as well. While the idea of pulling a late night recon/tree limb deposit sounds like fun and would probably get the old teenage 2 a.m. school grounds-bottle rocket war juices flowing, I am getting too old for the hijinks.

Bump. I have a bunch of tree limbs in my yard that I need to get rid of. It looks like city of Ankeny only accepts this 3 times a year, with the next time not being until October. Anyone have any suggestions for a place to drop this off at in or around Ankeny?

Pulling this thread back up because I am planning on taking down some limbs on my tree in Ankeny this weekend. Unfortunately I missed the city’s open dumping last weekend and was looking for some recommendations on where to take the cut branches.
