Trade Deadline

I read that the yearly Manny speculation could extend well into August due to the waiver trade rules, and the size of Manny's contract.

Yay!

Manny said he would wave the No Trade Clause, it is obvious he isn't happy in Boston right now. I can't believe the Sox would think about trading that guy.

I really don't get the White Sox dealing for Griffey unless they have another trade in the works. What are they going to do, put Griffey in center, move Swisher to 1st and sit Konerko? I would think that Griffey wouldn't take over either of the corner outfield spots as Quentin and Dye are too important to their lineup.

Ken Griffey Jr to the Chicago White Sox.

I think this would be good for Griffey. I know he is not what he once was but I think he could make a great impact if the White Sox can make reach the postseason.

I, too, wondered if they were packaging him to go elsewhere.

Konerko has been fairly bad so far in Fantasy this year. Maybe it might motivate Paul.

Thought Griffey was going to be traded back to Seattle. Hey, the yanks can use him somewhere.

I remember in 2005 when the big trade deadline deal was the Cubs trading Jody Gerut to the Pirates for Matt Lawton. Looks like this year will be a little more interesting.

I think the baseball trade deadline is by far the best. Look at the players who have been moved in the last month, C.C., Harden, Griffey Jr, Pudge, Nady, etc.

You hear about big trades in the NBA but very seldom do you see the action like this.

I can't think of any big NFL trade deadline deals right now.

That was 2003. Aramis Ramirez and Kenny Lofton to the Cubs; Jose Hernandez, Matt Bruback, and PTBN (Bobby Hill) to the Pirates. Good times.

The Pirates are not good at the deadline. They usually just dump a lot of players and it doesn't pan out for them.

I forget, but didn't we get Aramis Ramirez in that trade, or was that another robbery?

That was in 2003. I believe it was Ramirez and Kenny Lofton for Jose Hernandez, Bobby Hill, and a minor league pitcher which was a huge steal for the Cubs. They later traded for Randall Simon too after the deadline for cash or some minor prospect I think.

This is exactly what they plan on doing, or rotating out Thome occasionally as well, even though he is on fire lately. As of late last night I was hearing trading Cabrera for Houston Street, guess that changed in a hurry. I love the trade deadline, especially since it is during the day now and I dont have to stay up til midnight or later
