I am trying to collect data about people's opinions regarding stachybotrys chartarum, aka-Toxic Black Mold

I have 2 questions and need as many responses that I can get

Would you ever buy a home that has had black mold even if it was remediated?

Do you believe black mold can cause health problems in people?

I personally feel like mold is the new cash cow to replace asbestos. I believe that some people can be highly affected by it, but I'm certainly not one of them. I do work with a few companies that do mold remediation, and I'd be confident in buying a house that they've remediated.

I know I've got mold in my house. What kind, I don't know. No affect on anyone.

I know there was mold in the house i grew up in and parents still live in. No biggie. I'm 41 and have missed one day of work in my life...never sick.

Without mold we wouldn't have great things like penicillin and blue cheese. I think people should stop complaining about mold and give it the credit it deserves.

This. I think it is completely overhyped. I realize some people are allergic to molds, but I don't know that this "black mold" is any worse. I personally have mold in my basement that is black and it doesn't concern me at all.

You are probably right about this but the real problem will come if/when you decide to sell the house. Inspectors don't like mold and if is allowed to spread could become a very costly problem

If I am not mistaken there are numerous molds that can be black and most will not bother most people.

I personally look for homes with mold in them already, it is easy to clean and fix and you can get a steep discount on the home.

Balck Mold vs.Healthy Mold

In response to the person who compared Stachybotrys Chartarum to penicillium (penicillin): People who are allergic to penicillin can die from taking it. Stachybotrys causes bleeding lungs in children, memory loss, neuropathy, pneumonis, lung damage-asthma and the list goes on. Doctors refuse to get involved in cases but the government knows it is harmful to people otherwise they wouldn't require FEMA to wear protective clothing before entering any home with mold. How long did it take for doctors to correlate asbestos to cancer?? It's a shame that only the wealthy people like Ed McMahon can win against builders who put up crappy homes and cut corners to get them up quickly and then sell them for $100,000. Who will hold builders accountable for their work? They are now putting disclaimers in their contracts knowing that mold will grow and people are out huge amounts of money and in some cases their health.
