Top 10 PGs

Weird how recruiting services are so wrong at times, in high school Derrick Walton Jr was a higher ranked top 50 recruit and ahead of Morris and now Morris is a better college point guard!

Morris did win all the end-of- season awards that year in Michigan though. Everyone outside the state fell in love with Walton but the people watching the games knew how good Morris was. Be thankful for Waltons high ranking or Morris may have been a Wolverine.

I think there was something weird about them playing AAU together and Walton being the point guard for that, while Monte was the off guard. Anyway, I think that caused a lot of the services to think he was a tweener rather than a true point, which was incorrect and caused him to slide a bit.

All of that to say, I'm so glad that Walton committed to Michigan first and we got Monte. Steal of that class IMHO.

Talk about a misconception of that was the case. Monte is the definition of a true point guard.

I have never quite understood this. If a guy is a combo guard and has skills to play both positions it should increase their value not decrease it.

Or maybe versatility is only valued in Hoiball?

Interesting how they tout #1 VanVleet's 3:1 A/T ratio. For Monte, that would be a bad day! Congrats Monte, so glad you're a Cyclone!

For college players definitely. If a 6'2" guard is seen as a combo guard and not a true point at the next level that's more of an issue. But it's not true of MM anyway, he played like a second point guard even when Kane was technically the point guard.

Jack of All Trades Master of None is the addage. You want a smaller guard like Monte to be the PG. The fact he wasn't on his AAU team now looks more like the fact that Walton was not a 2, more than Morris was not a 1.

If Monte got to play the rest of the season in the MVC I have no doubt he'd stay at 6:1 or 7:1 the entire season, maybe even go up.

I agree with you on all counts, especially the last one. I just think that addage is small minded. Thankfully Fred has a wider view of things.

I don't think many people realize how ridiculous a 6.5/1 assist to turnover ratio is. 2 assists better than the NCAA record, which Monte owns. Being the key stat for a PG, how is he not higher on that list?

Signing with a high visibility program such as Michigan also affects the voters' perceptions.
