Report: Chiefs Reject Falcons Offer for*Gonzalez - Arrowhead Pride

Frank Boal of FOX4 in Kansas City is reporting the Kansas City Chiefs have rejected a trade offer from the Atlanta Falcons for tight end Tony Gonzalez. The offer was for the Falcons' 55th overall pick according to Michael Lombardi of the National Football Post.

*Boal rarely breaks news about the Chiefs and the rest of the mainstream media hasn't picked up on this yet so we're certainly going to continue following this story until we can get another confirmation.

Rumors have been swirling that the Chiefs were nearing a deal with someone to move Gonzalez. The basis of some of these rumors? Gonzalez cleaning out his locker.

We'll never know if the future Hall of Fame tight end was simply cleaning out his locker before the start of the Chiefs first veteran mandatory mini-camp on April 17th or if he removed his belongings with the intention that he wouldn't be back.

If the GM Scott Pioli values Gonzalez more than the Falcons' second round pick then it's unlikely any team in the NFL will match his price. The overlord of the previous Chiefs regime, Carl Peterson, reportedly pushed his asking price from a third to a second and fifth round pick at the trading deadline last year.

We can debate about Gonzalez's worth all day long but he's worth whatever any team will offer him. If the offers that came in last season (Eagles' 3rd, Giants' 6th) are any indication, Tony Gonzalez will not be traded by the Chiefs this season.

correct... and I do not see why people think we should trade hm. I know I stated if we do trade hime to get a 1st rounder for him.... Which will never happen.

I still think he is the Chief's best offensive player and would like him to be a lifelong Chief like Brett for the Royals. I think he is worth more than pick 55.

I cann't blame Tony for wanting out as he's enterting the twilight of his career and wants a shot at a SB ring.

I don't believe that TG will be in KC next season. I have been seeing that the Eagles may be willing to actually trade up this year into the first round. I think you'll see the Chiefs trade the #3 overall pick along with TG to the Eagles for their 2 first round picks (#21 & #28 I believe) plus a second or third. The Chiefs could get 3 young players (OT, DE & WR)

But I see as I am typing this that the Eagles just traded for Jason peters and they gave up their #28 pick. Ha ha. Guess that takes of their OT need and they probably wouldn;t jump up for another. But they may try to move up for a WR.

I think that you may see him traded at the NFL Draft. The Bills could be an interesting place as they could trade multiple draft picks if they choose. I think its going to be tough to move him with what you gave up to get Cassell you need to surround him with quality players and since you aren't going to use the number 3 pick on a skilled position player then you aren't really making your offense any better

we gave up 1 second round pick for Cassell....

Yeah the 3rd pick in the 2nd rd. Since there isn't a skilled poistion player that is worthy of the 3rd pick outside or Crabtree and I just can't see KC taking him thou I think it would be a decent pick. The fact that now they don't have a 2nd rd pick hurts because they can't get anyone there to try and make up the production that they would lose if they traded Gonzalez. The only way I see him moved is if someone gives up atleast 2 picks and maybe they would have to give up a 2010 pick as well
