Tip of the hat to Solomon Young

Defensively played awesome. I was skeptical of handing him the reigns for the rest of the year but he should start after this one.

I said this in the post game thread but Bowie pretty well cemented himself to the bench with being out this game and how well Young played.

Great game.

Held Lucas to 2-3 from the field, 2-4 from the line, and created 5 TOs (idk how much of that was when Holden as in, but still)

Get the kid some size and aggression for rebounding (Lucas pulled down 18, 6 on O) and we've got ourselves a much needed Big 12 big man next year.

Nice work, Young man.

I dont even care about him only scoring a single point, I want to see his +/-. Had some BIGTIME rebounds today after that stretch in first half!

And I just checked the box score, if you didn't watch the game and only looked at the stats, it'd look like he was completely a non-factor. I'm excited about how much impact he can have as he matures.

Also, Jackson scored 10. Getting those guys experience and contributing to a big win bodes well for the future core.

Made things difficult down low...wish they'd have something set up for him to pop out for a short jumper as he's looked good with that kind of shot.

If him or Holden aren't in the game in some capacity for here on out I'm hoping it's only due to foul trouble.

Holding Landen Lucas to a quiet game offensively says nothing. Dude is very limited offensively.

Edit: I don't mean this as a negative to SY. He did great today. Really happy with him. But jesus, it's not like he shut down Jonathon Motley.

One of the things that make Solomon so valuable is that he knows and accepts his role. That's a very admirable trait for a D1 basketball player. He's not concerned about his future prospects, he just wants his team to win, even if it means he is not one of the main scorers.

Young was a boss! Having a post in the game just help the guard play so much.

Mad props to Mr. Young. That was legendary stuff.

Agreed. Stick with the man, he will figure it out. He is a frosh, he will make mistakes, but the only way he can learn is by playing meaningful minutes in games like this. Love it. Happy for Solomon.

I get that Lucas rarely lights up the scoreboard, but every team we've played has crushed us with the post feed/kickout and/or post feed/easy 2. He didn't seem to get a lot of good looks and frankly it doesn't matter w/ Kansas, as Graham, Jackson, and Mason can all drain from 3 even without a post game, but I'd find it hard to believe they didn't want to take advantage of our inexperience and lack of depth down low.

Definitely. But with Mason, Graham, Jackson getting to the rim imo.

Totally agree. Kudos out to Solomon Young for a great game today.

Unless we are playing another very small 4 guard team, we need to have either Young or Holden in the game if we can IMO. We just play better. Even Holden today was protecting the rim at times for us. They both were at least a presence in there, and sometimes that's all it takes to make the winning difference.
